Dont be put of with the Norweigen & Swedish language at the beginning as all the Marti stuff is in English. Nice to see the 2 Norweigen journos of the podcast are both Rangers. https://podcasts.apple.com/se/

| Podcast with Marti. on 12:04 - Jun 1 with 11112 views | bongo_king | Great find. Forgot how good to listen to Marti was. Think only Warnock and Warbs among our recent managers were better "listens". On one hand grim to hear there was no direct conversations with West Brom. On the other hand, I agree with the thinking he's an ambitious guy who had always tended to move clubs after 2 seasons, so even if he had stayed and started last season at QPR it seems unlikely he'd have finished the season too. | | | |
| Podcast with Marti. on 12:37 - Jun 1 with 10985 views | GaryBannister86 | If you take Marti at face value then it is depressing to think Nourry got rid of a fine manager who had built up nigh on two seasons of Championship knowledge and would then have been presented with some strikers finally worthy of the name, to be replaced by someone who now has to build up that experience themselves. What a waste of time. Some club, somewhere, is going to get a very good manager, regardless of the Leicester sh*tshow. | | | |

Well he WOULD say that wouldn’t he? No out of work manager with a recent blot on his CV is going to say ‘yeah my agent was touting my services to other ‘bigger’ clubs when I was at QPR’ | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Marti is overrated and his Estrella song was sh*t. Fair enough if people don’t like Nourry, but no need for Stephan to carry the can.

| Podcast with Marti. on 17:01 - Jun 1 with 9990 views | TK1 | Is Cifuentes a better manager/coach than Stephan? Almost certainly not. Their records are pretty similar, but Stephan has coached a higher level and won the French cup. Stephan is definitely a better head coach for the current setup at QPR under Nourry. He's calm, understated, keeps any ego in check, nice gentle sense of humour, urbane, French, he'll seemingly work with what's given to him, mostly. I like him. I sense the players do too. But he hasn't connected with the fans anywhere nearly as well as Cifuentes did in more trying circumstances. Why? We always say that a certain kind of personality does well at QPR - cocky, thick-skinned but a little aggy - and Cifuentes had that. He crucially also says more about what makes QPR QPR in a couple of minutes than any member of the board has managed in a decade. He understood the club. He clearly liked being at Rangers and his story rings true to me. He still lives in London. He definitely would've done another year before moving up the ladder, not sideways. That's not really his move. Doesn't really matter other than we get so few manager matchups right it seems sad we binned a good one off so quickly. Forza Stephan, but I'll always wonder about Cifuentes/Calm and this squad. The fact that Marti's story is out there now and rings true, I expect it to be roundly rubbished by anonymous QPR fan accounts on X over the next few days. | | | |

My post isn’t about CN, and for what what’s worth I don’t mind Stephan, I want him to stay and think he could have a good season (injuries permitting) next year But based on Marti’s two seasons with an inferior squad, he performed to a very similar level to where we ended up last year and I liked his pragmatism

| Podcast with Marti. on 18:50 - Jun 1 with 9568 views | numptydumpty | I find the Cifuentes v Stephan debate strange. I do believe a great many fsns appreciate Marti way more than Stephan and Marti is looked back on fondly by fans as opposed to many saying about Stephan they can take him or leave him. They are not fussed. Yet Marti leaving was seen by many as a true tragedy. For me, Madsen massively improved under Stephan. He was awful under Cifuentes, whether thats his first year or not, its a strong possibility he has been coached better under Stephan than Cifuentes. Smyth also was very average under Cifuentes. This season he has been great to watch and impacting way more. Stephan changed the game model to accomodate two up top very soon into his reign and it worked. Kone, Burrell, Vale, Morgan, Mbengue all improved under Stephan also and i do remember Ilias Chair speaking very highly of Stephan's innovative training methods - the best coach he has ever worked under, he said. And yet Cifuentes name was sung heartily by many fans and Stephan has had nothing of the sort. Its all rather strange. I was very disapoointed when Marti left but i am not completely now buying the fact he wasnt trying to move elsewhere when at QPR. There are no such rumours with Julien. And as others have noted Cifuentes has engineered moves in the past before. And whatever anyone thinks of the Leicester players he had at his disposal there, their form under him was dreadful and lets not forget many of them were still seasoned premier league players and yes he was sacked but the decline continued and for all of that they ended up being relegated, which is dreadful for all involved and concerned. But again Cifunetes was let off lightly by many ie they disillusioned ex prem stars. Cifuentes had no ability.to create, motivate and organise these.players. Thats actually his job to do Marti in hindsight, could be classed as more of a chancer with a better spiel to spin. But the real job a coach does is on the training ground not in an interview or as a guest on a podcast. We will really know their relative abilities to coach a team of men when Cifuentes is given another chance. i was very impressed with Cifuentes when he came in. But he was coming in after arguably one of our worst ever managers in the last 30 years and think he benefitted from that in a backhanded way. People prefer listening to Marti on a podcast or post match interviews. Doesnt make him a better coach than Stephan. If people think in their own careers when interviewing new prospective workers some can give brilliant interviews and then be totally downright average as a worker. Think he may well do a few pods right now to highlight his profile ie he is on the lookout for a new challenge and he is clever at making things sound as if he is the one in the right etc when possibly i tentatively suggest he is better at self promotion. Cant help but feel the guy is massively overrated because he comes across well Again on here also my opinion here is not going to be appreciated but i can only say what i have seen myself. His performance at Leicester was shocking but again he will get a pass from many on that one and so many on here would have Cifunetes back in a shot over Stephan which again I have no understanding of that. He is more likeable to our fanbase. Thats how it seems to me..... [Post edited 1 Jun 19:01]

You mentioned that you think Marti would have done better this season, but, as has been pointed out, Madsen has been a complete different player this season and a big part of our good form. I don’t know what was going on, but there clearly wasn’t harmony during Marti’s time. I also think the fans took to him far too quickly and there’s definitely been questions asked of Stephan that weren’t or haven’t been of Marti. I also think there’s a massive feeling of distrust towards Nourry that’s driving a lot the sentiment. You may not have been talking directly about Nourry, but he’s part of the Marti narrative. You’re right about how the season has ended up, but for me this season when we’ve been good it’s been more enjoyable to watch than when we were good under Marti. Also, I question his judgement joining Leicester.

"His performance at Leicester was shocking but again he will get a pass from many on that one.. " No, his performance at Leicester wasn't shocking. His win rate at Leicester was 35.4%, higher than Stephan's at QPR (33.3%). He was sacked when LCFC were 14th, QPR finished 15th, and LCFC plummeted down to 23rd after he was sacked - suggesting he was overachieving with an absolutely rotten bunch of players at a deeply lost club. They should've kept him and paid the appropriate price for sacking him. Opinions are free to all and a privilege. But facts matter more in football.
| Podcast with Marti. on 19:59 - Jun 1 with 9378 views | daveB | Truth is always in the middle and it's been done to death before but something the club need to get a lot better at is managaing exits from the club. This was a very avoidabe situation still dragging on a year later and the way others have left the club such as Furlong could have been done a lot better. Even Kelman was quite scathing about how he was treated. | | | |

I don't have an axe to grind here, but Madsen improved considerably in the latter part of the previous season under Cifuentes.
