Scotland World Cup . 09:36 - Jun 7 with 17903 viewsPaddyhoops

In the continued and probably foreseeable absence of my lot at world cups . Thought it might be nice to have a thread for my Celtic cousins.
Watched a glorified training match between the Sweaties and Bolivia on the Beeb yesterday.
Thought that Gannon Doak was outstanding last night . Pace to burn .
Pretty sure he tore us a new one whilst playing for Boro here a couple of years ago .
Think they might reach the holy grail of the knockout stages.
One or two may not agree with me but hope they can do it this time.

Hope they do well…might watch some games for a change, I rarely watch TV.

Is Dykesy in the squad ?

Yes Ben Gannon-Doak is one hell of a winger. He seems to have it all with the ability to cross as well. Very exciting player at just 20 years old.

Never knowingly right.

Got to be honest, since the build up to 1978, I follow Scotlands World Cup efforts with uncontrolled delight.

Am far more looking forward to Scotland Haiti than any of the England group games, I’m getting a whiff of Peru about Haiti already.

Yepp. A good lad, amongst other things coming back from pneumonia in double quick time to play for us. I wish him well.

Strongly agree with the fcuk FIFA bit there but luckily for me this game v Hati is 8pm so I can relax and enjoy it .
4 points is pretty much gaurnteed to advance so they have a real chance to pull this off .
Spare a thought for Tierney its going to be hard for him to watch his Country battle without him

That whiff is now legal in Massachusetts.

Haiti look quite good in the warm up matches as do Scotland, well worth staying up for next weekend. Massive game for both of them as one win probably puts you through

If Scotland makes it out of the group stage, it'll be through being one of the eight best third placed sides. It does feel like we have a chance to finally progress in a World Cup, but having only won 4 of the 23 WC matches we've ever played, I am hedging my bets.

Spotted a dozen or so Sweaties out on the razzle today, also a few tadpoles(young Frenchies).

There used to be a saying the Scots players get home before their postcards.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

A bit galling from a Hearts perspective to keep hearing Scotland's in-form striker being referred to as '[Glasgow] Rangers forward Lawrence Shankland.'

It feels like it's a legal requirement for Scotland to play Brazil at World Cup finals.

"Norwegian coach Stale Solbakken is furious with Scotland after Steve Clarke's side chose to call off a closed-doors friendly against Norway because of a couple of minor fitness concerns in the Scottish squad."

A couple of minor fitness concerns! Come on! Afraid for the Norwegians?

Ok, Norway look good this time (Håland, Ødegård, Berge++). Norway played Marocco yesterday (they didn't chicken out). Draw 1-1 with Ødegaard the scorer. Marocco look very strong, semi-final also this time?

Solbakken looked and sounded well pisst off with Scotlands management from his comments in front of the cameras. Morocco looked pretty good with the ball in the first part of that game, but lost a couple of players to injury which could be a problem for them.

Did five 'Lowland' Jocks a favour yesterday. Bumped into them in a local bar where they were happy but lamenting the absence of familiar ales. Understanding their plight, I was able to direct them to a suitable Scottish establishment a few miles away. When I informed them haggis was also on the menu,😀

There is no way 3 points and a sensible goal difference won't get a team through to the knock outs. Brazil and Morocco are tough, but Haiti is a gift.

Morocco are 33/1 to make the final, they look good

Well done to Scotland - first win at the World Cup Finals for 36 years. That stat is all over the news media - serious and not so.

My bad - I never realised that the World Cup Finals were played every year. And that the Scotland football team participated in every single one of those 36 annual tournaments.
