I agree, can't see the attraction.
However I have a mate who is glued to the tellybox when it's on.
He says there's more to it - pitstops, fuel consumption and other factors that affect the outcome.
I dunno….

I will watch most sports on tv but F1,to me,is the most boring sport ever invented.I certainly don’t see the attraction of paying to stand by a far flung corner of the track watching a few cars roaring past me.I do do that for free on the A14 a few miles from my house.
And after winning a race the winner could be disqualified because the gap on his spark plugs are too wide.Don’t get me started on the environmental impact of all that lot travelling around different parts of the planet.
No thanks.

F1 - fastest car wins. Not interested at all but a few years ago my F1 friends were saying Lewis Hamilton was one of the greatest sportsmen this country had ever produced. When he stopped winning I said to them, why isn’t he winning if he’s so good? Oh, that’s because his car’s rubbish. Surely though that means that when he was winning he was in the best car then? Someone else might have been even better than him if he was in his car.

Any excuse to get NRBQ an airing on LFW.

Not perfect science but generally when they are absolutely destroying their team mate that's the best indicator. Hamilton did that for years at Mercedes as Schumacher did at Ferrari before him and Verstappen since. Ironically one of the people Schumacher destroyed was Verstappen's dad.

Used to watch it with my old dad when he was around.

Both got up in the middle of the night to watch Nigel Mansell be crowned world champ in Australia until his tyres blew and remember similarly watching when Senna was killed with Murray Walker struggling to commentate knowing one of his mates had likely passed on.

Went to a few grand prix's in 80s and 90s and saw one at Brands Hatch also back in the Prost, Lauda, Piquet era.

It was never really more than a passing interest for me, though. Never bothered me what car i own, good job - some of the old bangers i have had.

Like you say watching a procession even at high speed is difficult to get too excited about. Since my dad passed i have not kept up with it at all.

All i know Lewis is still going and there are two other british boys challenging and thats that. Some people love it. Some dont

Monaco is glitzy and glamourous but in my opinion it shouldn't be in the F1 calendar.
I like F1 but if it's almost impossible to overtake at Monaco, the first 3 on the starting grid normally end up in the top 3.
Monaco must pay an enormous amount of money to stage the race.

I used to enjoy F1 when the drivers were proper personalities (not that I was too bothered about watching the races).

Monaco though is really more of a social event for the 1% - as a race, if you're on pole unless you crash or have a fault with the car, you're virtually guaranteed to win.

The race was summed up by the team principle of Maclaren Zak Brown being interviewed mid-race.

"Thats the order they are in and thats how they will finish"

Not exactly inspiring.

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!
