Basically, football managers dont exist anymore.
They have zero control over signings - anyhow that seems to be the case universally.
They are let go, if they lose six games in a row, even if the previous thirty, they have been successful. Players have very long contracts and its not like the 70s and 80s with managers such as Cloughie or Bobby Robson, where they got a group around them to reflect their squad character and they knew how to manage players best, if they needed that arm round the shoulder or a kick up the b*tt.
Appreciate our "model" now is aligned to this and some find it a bit too much from on high. But isnt this the way of doing things now.
Basically football managers are a thing of the past - HEAD COACH - more like. And they are replaced as often as the average Joe changes his under garments.
Not saying, i neccessarily agree with this new way of operating, but its the way it seems to be. Not sure, where am heading with this, put me up in dullest thread perhaps, but isnt the days of being a football manager done, and even if it wasnt, would it work now in todays game anyway...

When Gareth Ainsworth took over at Wycombe in 2012 he was effectively doing a bit of everything.
Lower league clubs don't have the income or the office space for large coaching staffs and several layers of management above the 'Head Coach'.
Clubs at our level who aspire to play with the big boys end up copying what they do, in as far as our budget allows us to.
Then again, recent reports suggest Jose Mourinho wanted a lot of control at Real Madrid before he agreed to return there. So maybe it's just a trend and dominant characters in the dressing room might come around again at some point:

Sports Interactive need to change the Football Manager game to either be a DoF mode where you sign all the players and staff but have no control over the games, or a Head Coach mode where you can control your tactics and training but have players foisted on you by the game before being sacked after three months anyway.

It’s being a continental thing for decades and now England is catching up thanks to the majority of the head-coaches in the prem being from the continent. As has being said already, it’s really just a prem thing and those in our Div aspiring to be a prem team, or recently being a prem team, or else little clubs like ours with ‘notions’. Down the divisions, the manager does the lot, including washing the kit.
‘Head Coach’ is a much more dispensable position as you are only removing someone from a single role, hence how regularly they are sacked. ‘Manager’ is someone with multiple jobs and therefore more difficult to replace as he probably has more control in, and affinity to, the club. | | | |
