France were good in the second half but the Senegal keeper gave them a helping hand.

I'm loving how the commentators are trying to big up teams like France, who frankly look bang average.

I think Argentina lost to Cameroon, the season they got to the final and they lost against Saudi Arabia last time, before going on to win the tournament. Italy drew their three group games once and went on to win the tournament also. |  |

With the extra game and conditions it’s probably wise to not go all out in the first game. Spain were dismal, granted, but they’ll be a lot better with the quicker wingers in. Made themselves very easy to play against before an 80% Yamal gave them a different outlet. I still fancy them. | | | |

Proper game of football.
Be interesting to see how Senegal play against less good sides, I like them but the centre midfield went awol second half. |
I was only able to listen to it on TalkSport but it sounded like a cracker, especially the second half.
Top marks to Joe Shennan and ex-Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee for excellent punditry. Unlike most of the clowns who provide football commentaries on the radio they:
- Weren't hysterical
- Focused on the action on the pitch
- Didn't forget that some listeners, probably most, *cannot see what is happening*. If the commentary degenerates into waffle about football in general, golf days, other teams or any other irrelevant topic, it's infuriating
- Didn't try to be comedians
- Acknowledged how fortunate they were to be able to watch such a high profile game and the moments of quality and drama the second half provided. |  |

I thought France were fantastic second half, blew a very good Senegal side away. They are a bit ropey at the back but when they get going they are very good.

My take on what I've seen is that the technical standard and movement of most teams, even some of the "small" countries, is very good and I've been impressed when this is only the opening round and teams will tend to improve.
I can see a lot of teams potentially outplaying and outlasting England already, but let's see if they surprise me tonight and in the coming matches. |  |
