The ultimate World Cup thread 22:40 - Jun 11 with 156553 viewsLogman

Think we need a designated thread for general World Cup 2026 chat. There only seem to be the England and sweepstake ones so far.

Well that opening game got me nodding off nicely. VAR/the laws of the game the talking points as always. Well done FIFA. Not long before the highlights are just a reel of refereeing/VAR decisions.

When does the EFL start ?

Who's Lyndon playing for now, AC/DC?

Well whichever, he still generally struggles to find the hole/goal...

Very good ref in this Canada v Bosnia game.

Never knowingly right.

Larin definitely looked as if he had a point to prove with that goal.

This Norwich winger apparently cost £1.4m.

Well that was fun. Canada were fun. Bosnia defended well. Ref was outstanding. Good to see Austin Powers there too. Yeah baby!

Never knowingly right.

Quite an enjoyable game. Nice to see attacking football for a change.

Promise David looks useful. An absolute unit, 6 foot 5 and if you look at his goal scoring rate at club level, 49 goals in 97 games over the last few seasons, that's Charlie Austin level goal scoring. Sadly out of our league in terms of transfer fee but very useful player for Canada. Nice flick on for the goal.

Never knowingly right.

Canada score a goal in a WC final for the first time. So that's one monkey off our back.

We have some decent players but I'm not sure the coaching really brings out the best in them.

No Ghana, no Partey?

If Ghana win the WC with or without Partey then myself and SuperHoop 83 get the new QPR kit from the Clubshop
However the chances of that happening are below zero so no need to send in our sizes

Amazing from the US. Third was important as they can take the second half off.

I hope the Tuchel affect is the same for us as the Poch affect for the US.

USA looked very good, I think they'll go far in this, the draw is quite kind to them

Looked a bit shaky defensively IMO but get enough of those big lumps on the pitch at the same time as Millar and the bloke with the long throw and they’ll be fine in that group I’m sure. If Marsch tries to get them playing too much it’ll probably be trickier. Thought Bosnia were better than expected but still reliant on heroic defending which won’t always happen.

Enjoyable game and looked a good ground on TV rather than the megabowls elsewhere.

I only saw the highlights but Paraguay, while finishing 6th in South America qualifying, were level on points with Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia. So, they must be a decent side. Looking at USA they have a lot of players (more than I realized) that play in clubs in top leagues in Italy, Germany, France and England. And also play for clubs like PSV. Combined with home advantage, which I think is massive, I think they will give the best teams a very tough test. USA vs Spain in last 16?? Could be a good one.

This is exactly it. After the tedium of a league season (hello again Preston) where the main aim is possession at all costs, backwards and sideways everywhere we go and teams set-pieceing their way to titles, a simple long ball over the top for a runner is enough to give me a moderately impressive lob-on.

You've got lads here who will never ever play on a stage this big again, literally their cup final. If you're 30 yards out with the ball at your feet and a sight of goal at a tournament you'd be more likely to think "fùck it, I'll have a dip" than "can I recycle this back to the keeper safely"
