Think we need a designated thread for general World Cup 2026 chat. There only seem to be the England and sweepstake ones so far.

How bad a manager was Jon Dahl Tommason?! Potter must be a magician otherwise.
They finished bottom of their WC qualifying group, below Kosovo!
Got in via their Nations League position and beating Ukraine and Poland. Very lucky.
It does appear so far that the European teams are MILES clear of the other regions. I know it’s a warm weather WC and so you typically see a South American team win, but I can see the semi finals being an all European affair. |
Yeah the European teams look a lot stronger so far although not seen Argentina yet. I think Brazil will get better but can't see them winning it.
Despite the expanded group phase does look like a few groups could be tight. That Dutch group, a good side is gonna finish 3rd same as the French group |  | | |

Now the competition has been expanded to 48 teams it is in my view diluting the whole thing, the group stages will drag along for another two weeks. All about further money grabbing, thought they had it right with 32 teams which already seemed a lot. It all seems a bit messy to me and the disinterest is setting in. Going the same way as the FA Cup it will end up being dumbed down so much that it loses the credibility of being the pinnacle of World football. [Post edited 15 Jun 9:36]

Well, so far I've enjoyed what I've seen, apart from the "hydration" breaks!
The speeding up of throw ins & the less time spent on treating "injuries" etc has been superb. For once, the FIFA Law Committee have got it right! Will Mr Webb allow his merry men to follow suit though?
What has been a revelation to me is how much Asian football has improved. I used to think that it was a matter of time before an African nation won the tournament, but the two major powers from East Asia have overtaken them. As have USA!
I expect the winner this year will come from, Argentina, France, Germany or Spain, but the gap between the improving countries & South America plus the next tier of Europe has closed a lot. | | | |

Having a front two of Isak and Gyokeres is quite handy.

Thank fck the Scotland game Is over, maybe now we wont have to hear about how Scotland got to the USA 54 million times, we wont have to hear about Rod fcking Stewart 54 million times, we wont have to be told how the Scotland fans are wearing traditional Scottish attire (you know kilts) 58 million times, blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-blah, Christ on a bloody bike talk about overkill. |

I think the mandatory one minute off the pitch if the player requires a physio has done that rather than the breaks. The exception to that being goalkeepers so there’s been some time-wasting but probably still less than in the Premier League where it’s pretty much every game now.
In general the refereeing has been very good IMO compared to the slop we’re used to. | | | |

The throw in countdown only starts when the player picks up the ball. Don't touch the ball, and you can still stretch the time. |  |

Group stages are only lasting a day longer than normal as they are doing 4 games a day most days. I've quite enjoyed it so far, been some good games and much like previous ones the jeopardy increases with each game. | | | |

I have watched a few Videos of the Scottish invasion of your adopted city Boston and they appear to be having the time of their lives and drinking the place dry with no violent outbursts (take not Knick fans bunch of wan*ers ).
Saw one where a Boston cop was juggling a football superbly to a cheering crowd of Scots and when he lost it was swarmed good natured and again no arrests or shootings.
How did that family afford those seats in Fenway its not cheap up there .

The Scottish fans did look like they were having a good time, I saw some videos of them going down that kids slide that was really dangerous, it made social media awhile ago when people were getting hurt going down it.
The Dutch and Japanese in Fort Worth yesterday were so much fun. I hope England fans can behave this week.
I actually really like that Adidas Scottish away shirt. Adidas have done an incredible job with their World Cup designs. Because my wife is part Mexican, I ended up buying all three of the Mexico shirts for the gym.
