I've seen a game or two everyday but haven't seen many other goals. I miss the highlights shows, used to be a great way of catching up. I know that there are highlights on BBC iPlayer but I haven't got around to any yet and it's not really the same

BBC highlights tend to be 8 or 9 minutes for each match, if you're short of time the ones on the FIFA website are just over two minutes each.

The pace does appear to be way faster so far and some stunning goals with Mbappe probably top after yesterdays strike from way out but like you say very enjoyable.
However the way they are being officiated is bizzare with almost zero cards (except Mexico V SA ) but some of the tackles would be a thick yellow stealing that from Clive ,orange or maybe red yet not even VAR intervenes .As for the goals just yesterday a Norway player basically palmed the ball to himself in the build up to their 4th I think but surprise surprise not even a check and the goal stood.
I expect they will tighten up as the knockout phase gets here

I'd much rather have light touch reffing like this than the over-fussy pedantic media-driven nonsense we have in this country.

I'm usually the first to moan about the poor quality of the BBC football website but their 8/9 minutes highlights packages are REALLY good.

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

For me the pick of the bunch is still Saibari’s. For the sublimity of the pass from Brahmin, to the quality of the finish, the standard of oppo keeper and it was against BRAZIL. Long range shots look more spectacular for sure (I still think back to Haan’s 40 yard strike v Italy that beat Zoff all ends up in ā€˜78) but there is an element of hit and hope involved. Not the case with Saibari’s which was executed with surgical precision.

I'm with you on this Myke. The pass & finish for the Morocco goal was a thing of beauty.

The first France goal was also due to a brilliant pass.

Amazing that there are fewer delays for physios to come on and head injuries now you’re off for a minute if you require treatment. One or two odd moments but in general the refereeing has been good.

Anthony Taylor stuck on Uzbekistan v Colombia suggests our elite referees aren’t considered all that elite.

I'm also of the view that the referees have been good & far better than any we have in England.

I would say though, that our officials are possibly hindered by the dictates of Howard Webb & his view that he knows better than anyone else.

There’s definitely been a memo about letting the games flow. European refs are letting things go that would always be given as a foul nowadays in their club football. Credit where it’s due because there’s plenty to dislike about this World Cup but the mostly unnecessary water (ad) breaks are outweighed by not having a winning team’s player down every five minutes with a life threatening bit of cramp and teams being given three working days to take a long throw.
