Apparently £1.5m plus more if they get promoted. Fair enough.

Sorry to see Sam go.

There's a lot of good experience leaving the squad this summer.

I'm worried we could be regretting that before we get too far into next season.

The old adage is that you should never sell a player unless you have three better players vying for his spot.

I'm not sure we have one player ready to step in for him, so this is a huge risk imo.

Me too. I liked him a lot. Felt we struggled sometimes without him. Now we don't have him or Hayden. Only Chair has experience in midfield now and he's barely played for a year. Good luck Sam.

Never knowingly right.

Sad to see him go, as he is experienced, never hides, can play several positions and also always seems like a decent guy. Wish him well.

Age of the squad must be among the youngest in the league now

Know that Field is also under 30 but is our eldest player now only 28? Smyth, Dunne, Chair and JCS

1.5 Million including add ons. so guessing £1M in real money.

Probably frees up a lot of salary bill.

At this moment with the players we have, he could have been a decent squad player and probably featured a lot this year. But as much as I like his character, I don't believe he is going to be a key player in moving us forward. He is a safe bet, will do what is asked of him, but I think we need better if we want to progress and can only assume we have a good replacement lined up already. I am just a little bit worried about us letting experienced players go and ending up with a bunch of kids. But having said that, worked a treat for Sunderland.

Good luck Sam and thanks for the service!

If I'm reading the article right, it says £1.5m upfront with add-ons up to £2.8m.
Decent business for both clubs I reckon.

Sorry to see him go, gave us years of good service. Field and Dunne (and to a lesser extent Dickie) basically kept us in the division for two seasons and I would still have him as first choice at CDM as things stand. However, I do think his is a slightly easier position to fill and I'm reasonably confident that we'll get someone in there who will be good.

Agreed. The goals against last season shows that. Somebody is putting personal feelings before the good of the club.

I liked Field. He was a steady player for us at a time when we were as wobbly as Trump's arse.

Totally agree Bri.

I really do fear about the make up of our squad next season.
You do not survive at this level with a bunch of 4 ft 6 tricksters, wet behind the ears academy kids and players brand new to the level, the league or the country.

Sam epitomises what you need at times and I'm very sad to see him go.

Through some pretty bleak seasons he's been Mr Reliable and stood up to be counted numerous times.
If the £1.5M fee is correct then that's not bad business but I worry about the bigger cost in the medium term.

So long Sam..... always a peg for your cardigan in W12

Didnt want to be here did he ?
Thanks for your time but off ya pop then Sam.

Not sure what the issues were behind the scenes , but i would have liked him to stay. Could have done with him last season, and looks like we could do with him this season. Hopefully we can get a decent replacement. I'm sure they're out there.

Some people are saying it's a 3 million fee but then they were the same people saying Armstrong was 2 million so who knows 🤷

Norwich journo, who knows his sht, says it’s £1.5m potentially rising to £2.8m if they get promoted etc.

Field started the season very badly and Stephan decided he had better options. Wanted to play regularly so the Norwich loan made sense although he wasn’t a regular for them either. Good luck to him: he’s been a decent player for us.
Not sure why people are so worried we have no replacement: it’s mid June not early September and there’s a few months left to sign a few better midfielders.

Good in trying times, especially that horror season under Beale/Critchley/Ainsworth. Decent fee as well.

Reasonable fees. Probably negotiated at time the loan deal was set.

We are inevitably going to have a few younger centre mids at less than £1 million being looked at and with the intention of them selling for much more in a couple of seasons.

From a purely playing perspective, I would have kept Sam, done a very decent job over five seasons, never hides, scores sometimes and is always at least a basic solid six out of ten.

But for the model, I understand the reasoning.

He will be greatly missed. And I wish him well.

I’m worried about “how” they’ll replace him.

Do you imagine “the project” will have a battle ready experienced centre midfielder lined up to be in n place before preseason, is such a player available for less than say £1Mill?????

More likely a 19 year old from Perth Glory or Brisbane Storm is rolled out and they experiment with Harvey O’Vale as a midfield dynamo.

That is why I am worried

This sale is necessitated by the massive mistakes made by our sports science and fitness team… basically a financial sticking plaster to tide us over until our real golden gooses are fit for sale.

I hope we Make better choices next season (maybe pre-season) and dispense of the incompetence behind the scenes.

Also heard that it's £1.5m potentially reducing to £250k if they get relegated.
