Been on literally dozens. Just got back from one. Think everyone who can afford one should give it a go, most love them . You have to do loads of research to find the right cruise line for you as the difference between them is immense. P and O and Cunard have proper ‘pubs’ so you’ll get your ales. These days the better lines do not have regimented meal times and dress codes are far more relaxed |  | | |

Friends of mine go on the northern lights cruises around Iceland and a few Scandinavian expeditions.
They were on one that stopped in a very remote location, where sirens sounded daily, when it was advisable to stay indoors as Polar Bears were seen to be in the vicinity.

Never done one, one of my mates went on a two week Mediterranean cruise, I asked him what sites he had seen, “none” was his reply, he was all inclusive and as far as he was concerned the ship was his holiday, he said all the bars and pools were empty when the boat docked and made the most of it! He may as well have gone to Butlins. |  |

Scroll further down and you will see the headline " 100 sick with norovirus ship locked down" thats why I have never been on a cruise and never will.
Look up Carnival Cruise and see the carry on there and it would turn most people off.
Now a Viking cruise around Northern Europe or Alaska might be something worthwhile .

Been on a couple of Disney cruises with the kids. Those were good and they do a great job of making it special, but obviously the primary focus was for the kids rather than us. Not sure id do a regular cruise without kids, but could be talked into it if it was one of the better ones |  | | |

Norwiegan Cruise Line you want. Laid back, great variety of food for all tastes and you can go as casual or a poncy as you like.

I like them. I was very uncertain given the snooty image I had in mind so we went for a short one initially just in case we hated it but found the opposite. With P&O you can completely avoid the formal set dining and just use the 24 hour buffet which has a good variety on offer. There are also various types of restaurants and bars including a pub type with real ale.
You can just stay on board, of course, but it's like being in a hotel at a different location every day or two. I'd usually go for a run soon after docking to have a scope of the locale and then later have a walk round if we haven't booked an excursion that day. [Post edited 4 Jul 15:18]

Love em. Done the Carribean, Norway twice, Canaries, doing Alaska next year for my 50th wedding anniversary. All inclusive if you like a drink, pay as you go if not.Food always tops with so much choice.
Been on NCL , Ambassador which go from Tilbury 15 mins from my house, smaller ships but cheap and cheerful, P &O good as well. I do have to chuckle when people who have never been say they hate them ! I cant think of anything more boring than sitting on a beach all day, but each to his own I say. |  |

I used to like canal boat holidays, you're your own skipper and there are plenty of canalside pubs.
Brewery and distillery and pub tours too.

Did a three night cruise a few years ago on Cunard's Elizabeth to the Bruges Christmas market, including a black and white evening meal. Belgian ales and Mueles frite what's not to like. oh and all the food you can eat on board ship plus proper ales. | | | |

Been on well over 15 cruises including…..
The Baltic , that included St.Petersburgh, Moscow, Finland, Sweden etc etc, all from Tilbury of all places.
Done the Med, The Caribbean, South America, Asia, China and Tokyo.
I’d recommend them like a shot.
My next one will be a return to Cuba as it’s just fantastic there. | | | |
