One of the most annoying things about this World Cup is player’s simulation or play acting, to get a free kick or to get another player send off - in front of live tv with multiple replay angles and slow-motion replays, but they still doing it wantonly.
A strike to the arm, the player covers his face and drop to the ground like a ton of bricks, or a brush to the body, the player falls dramatically and rolls in agony. This is rampant and although not only confined to the World Cup, but it being pretty obvious in this World Cup due to the multitude of tweets, videos, reels in social media that extends beyond just football fans but the global audience that are engaged in this year’s edition
It was interesting as I was watching back the replays, on multiple platforms, the Australian, British or American commentators virtually “missed” Embolo play acting, they didn’t actually raised suspicion of a possible play acting by the player when he tumbled onto the ground in “agony” seeking for a foul, despite a couple of slow-mo replays on screen before the VAR intervened.
This time VAR got it right.
These ridiculous play acting or simulation have to be stopped and eradicated, they are negatively impacting the sport world wide.
This incident which Embolo got his second yellow card hence a red card and was expelled from the match should give a clear signal to players to cut out play acting. I don’t understand why some commentators felt sorry for him, he left the field visibly distraught but the fact is he clearly cheated trying to get the other player in trouble.
This should send a clear message to players to cease cheating, and many wondered why referees ignored players falling and shouting for a foul, as in most cases the “injured” player just sprung up to alive and well, and continued when his antic was completely ignored.
An incident involving Kane being tackled and he fell to the ground clutching his shins was totally ignored by the referee and the continued passage of play saw Norway scoring their goal mere moments later should also be a lesson for players not trying to fool the referee.
Hopefully things get better hereon and football will become more watchable.

TBF I think ‘simulation’ is just a word that’s been chosen to describe the specific nature of the cheating. The ‘football world’ would only be ‘condoning cheating’ if they were failing to take any action, which, thankfully, they now appear to be doing. Embolo remains a complete and utter d*ckhead though.
