I did wonder with the post match interviews whether the snide question to Bellingham about what Tuchel said was a reaction to Tuchels handling of his interview.
I think he was right as well, the mentality was there to drag a win out when we weren't necessarily playing well but the interviewer perhaps wanted to paint it that the players had a poor attitude. With friends like that... |  | | |

I struggle badly with TV coverage on both channels, It Is so unnecessary to stick a microphone directly under a players nose 90 seconds after a hard fought win and ask him If he's delighted about a quarter final win, the bloody player Is knackered and just wants to spend time with his team mates and enjoy the moment.
You could plainly see Thomas Tuchel getting agitated whilst being asked Inane questions by an Inane cardboard cut out with a microphone.
And why oh why do we have to have pictures every Five minutes of so called effing bloody CELEBRITIES sat In the crowd trying to look cool and trendy every time there's a hold up In the game.
I don't have a clue who was the commenter last night but I know It was BLOODY Lee Dixon sat next to him because I heard the bloody word ARSENAL being mentioned every Two minutes.
And no I don't have to just turn Off the sound to get rid of their stupid lame sounding blancmange talking, I want to hear and feel the atmosphere In the stadium.

I have (accidently) discovered that if you turn on the audio description for the blind on your remote you can get an alternative, radio-style commentary without any co-commentary. Paul Robinson on 5 live constantly contradicts himself. Barely put a coherent sentence together. Offers very little in terms of adding colour to the commentary.
Sutton was co commentator for the Argentina game and I think is good. Even Shearer these days is very good. When he first started his only contribution was stating the bleeding obvious.
Fox here had 2 US commentators. Fact, information. more facts, commercials. Humourless drivel.

Guy Mowbray is not far off Matterface’s level.
His voice reminds me of Ron Manager and he’s obviously got a list of pre prepared ‘witty’ wordplays ready to interject into the commentary which he sounds very smug about once achieved.
The best commentators at the World Cup have been the ones doing the ‘minor’ matches who generally just get on with commentating on the game. |  | | |

For me, it's not necessarily when they retired that's the issue, it's the utter drival many people commentating on football produce, itself surpassed by the utterly inane drivel of whomever the co-comms person is.
However, last time I caught athletics commentary from the BBC, it was excellent and hands down, lightyears ahead of any football coverage I've seen on the BBC or ITV.
Gabby Yorath/Logan as anchor, top notch. Then, we had Ennis-Hill, Lewis, Ratcliffe, and Jackson who were just superb, and that's before the studio hands you back to Steve Cram (forget the other commentaror they have) who are both brilliant at their job.
All of those are long retired, and yet totally informative and on point! So, athletics can do it, yet football coverage is perpetually stuck at being hopeless. [Post edited 13 Jul 6:04]
