Fantastical performance in 'Event Horizon' as Doctor Weir.

A Brilliant physical performance in 'Dead Calm' also.

Loved watching him play the ukulele on twitter during covid lockdown. He was a gentle soul and a beautiful man inside and out.

RIP

One of my favourite actors, earliest memory from me was obviously the Omen sequels but my favourite role was when he played the Irish copper in peaky blinders.

Sad news.

If you have not seen this film, it’s worth a go. Another great role to add to the others.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - most amusing….

So many good films. His performance in Possession is simply brilliant and Wilder people is excellent too.

Nice guy too apparently, will be missed.

Very sad to hear this news, especially as he had only just revealed he was cancer free. He was an extraordinary actor.

Particularly sad about this one because although I didn't have any direct relationship with him he was in Event Horizon. I wrote the original short story that film was based on and Sam was the perfect choice to play Weir.

So yes, RIP Sam. A brilliant actor (and a very good person apparently) and super scary in that film. He was very different in everything he was in.

Never knowingly right.

Do you see? Yes, I see.

I was going to mention both those films. The Guardian (sorry!) lists In The Mouth Of Madness as his best film, so I might give that a go later today.

A fantastic actor. Rest in peace.

Suffering since 1978.

I often had the feeling that in certain movies (e.g. Escape Plan, a Stallone/Schwarzenegger vehicle) he wasn't quite in the same movie as everyone else.

I think for me because it had him and another of my favourite actors Sean Connery another unmentioned solid film - The Hunt for Red October - was my favourite. I have lost count of how many times I have watched that

Pleased he’s made the msg board - much loved here & bit of a shock as seemed to have got through cancer scare.
Just seemed a really good buggar & lot of recent coverage was from his winery & farm where has named livestock after fellow actors. Not sure if Two Paddocks will have made it to UK but nice Pinot Noir.
Great actor & blazed trail for other Kiwi’s to follow.

Reilly, Ace of Spies was very good.

Oddly enough, later on I ended up reading about the real Reilly, who had a fascinating life (albeit he was basically a con man) until the Cheka caught up with him.

(The TV series was based on a biog by a guy called Robin Bruce Lockhart, whose father Sir Robert Bruce Lockhart employed Reilly as part of his plot to overthrow Lenin, and who himself had an extraordinary career.)
