Millwall Cup Tie 09:52 - Jul 30 with 21799 viewsKodika

For the life of me I cannot understand the Club’s decision to close the Stanley Bowles stand for this game. I fully understand why it was closed for the friendly game against Fiorentina, or if we had been drawn against a first or second division team in the Carabao Cup. Millwall is a local derby, however, and considering our increased attendances last season, and frequent sellouts, I would have thought it would attract a sufficient crowd to open the stand.

Possibly fans have had enough of the appalling approach the club took to the Carabao Cup last season; check out the tickets seat map, they are hardly flying off the shelves.

This is normal for the early rounds of the Carabao though, that game at Charlton when we took a full away end and there was hardly any home fans there; looks like this will be very similar.

Maybe if an early statement was made that we will not be playing the creche, ticket sales may improve?

Look at the number of seats still available in the areas that are open. When I looked earlier this week, some areas of the Upper Loft had either 60% still on sale or it might have been 60% sold. Either way that's a lot of empty seats.

Is it more to do with the Safe Standing not being finished yet in the Stan Bowles stand

That’s what I thought, not even started to put the new rail seats in yet ( as of last Saturday)
Anyone notice the upper school end now is 3/4 rail seats.

yeah I know these things can be done quick but 2 weeks before a game and getting safety certificate etc probably explains it.

I doubt we'd have sold that many even if open

Don't know why people are getting in a flap about this match - it's early August, schools are out, a lot of people are on holiday.

I'd like to have gone to this one, but I'll be away.

People complaining about a stand not being open when I'd have the par for attendance at 8k maybe?

Had we got a decent draw, I'd have been up like a shot but as it's them and all the hassle around them, I'm not fighting the M3 holiday traffic leaving the south coast on an August Saturday morning.
I came up for Fiorentina, which looked and was interesting, on the train. After the match, they cancelled all the overground to Clapham due to a shortage of drivers, so I had to get the bus and missed my connection. I'm on the train again for Bolton and Boro, previously booked, but not risking it apart from that.

I’ve got my ticket. I might be naive but I’m expecting a full strength team akin to the last preseason friendly (but with some added edge). For that reason I thought it was a great idea to bring the League Cup games forward to a week before the championship starts.

I've thought for quite a few years now that it's the natural date for the first round, rather than in midweek following the first league game.

I'm also expecting that the team will be as close as possible to what they want to play at Portsmouth.

After the midweek trip to plymouth last season in a. car with NO working air con either way in what was then called the hottest day of the year its a great idea having the first gae on a sat before the season starts , sods law we got a home game this time though, but make sense dont have to start the season with a dreaded 3 game week immed , im supprised it not sold more tickets to be honest

There was over 8k for the Fiorentina game.

I personally would have thought we would be likely to play a reasonably strong team, just to get players used to each other in a game that is not crucial but at the very least will be useful for sharpening up for the first league game.

The Stan Bowles stand was shut when we played Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup 4 or 5 years back.
No one turned up then so there can be little complaint from people about doing it in the middle of the summer holidays.

I think the club's terrible attitude to cup games, was always going to turn punters off.

Should sales necessitate it they surely will open it? They're not going to turn away potentially paying punters are they? In which case it's a bit of a non-debate - if we want it open, turn up.

lets face it a lot of fans have an equally piss poor attitude towards them. The crowds for early rounds in the last 20+ years are tiny.

True, but we try to win the friendlies.

I think all club’s attendances are less for the early rounds of the cups.Maybe they should bring back the cup tie vouchers on our season tickets to encourage a bigger crowd?

Our club have never had an interest in the cup. Look at the side Stephan put out last year. I’m sure this year will be no different hence all our lot not bothering. When the club start taking cups seriously, then so will the fans.

I don't like it, either. But, they might turn away punters if the cost of accepting them exceeds the income.

Find it a bit odd they put a lot of effort into promoting and incentivising the Fiorentina game over this one. Should be a nice day for it, not stupidly priced etc. and would imagine with the lack of alternatives there’ll be plenty of tourists.

If we are counting visiting paying punters , wall sold out early last week or in other words straight away to fans with a high number of loyalty points therefore QPR are already turning away potential paying supporters .
They may have deemed it to be more hassle than its worth but they woud have easily brought 3k over & there is the room to allow that in the school end alone .

Probably my favourite part of the last 10 or so years watching us was that little cup run we put together, when we beat L Orient, Oxford and Everton and unfairly lost to Sunderland. I mean, it helped that the Orient game was the first game was after lockdown and the atmosphere was incredible.

One of my other favourite moments was beating Millwall and West Ham in the FA cup in the 90s (one of my earliest football memories). Or Trevor Sinclair's bicycle kick to beat Barnsley in the cup.

Maybe these moments feel so special, because they feel so few and far between. I just wish they'd try that more often. Especially as we've essentially done nothing in the league for years.

Can absolutely 100% understand fans not being up for it. I would have been livid if I went all the way to that Plymouth game and saw that line up. I was livid when we lost to V Motors and I get annoyed by our attitude to the cup year after year.
