Coventry City 12:49 - Mar 14 with 976 views | exiled_dictator | Getting closer to administration ...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21779445 Despite there being some serial Coventry haters on the board, it is NEVER a good thing for football when a club goes into administration. Yes, they had big plans a few years ago, but what ambitious club doesn't? Their move to the new stadium seems to be the catalyst for all their financial foes. Hopefully they will come out of administration in a better condition, with more realistic targets & footballing ambitions. Sometimes, it is hardest for a club to live in its past glories.

The absolute point by point lesson in how not to move to a new stadium that every club planning a move should study meticulously until they can write a book on it from memory. Of course LFW carried copy at the time the Ricoh Stadium opened saying the business plan was absolutely fcked from the very beginning and would end up bankrupting the club and I was told in no uncertain terms that I was wrong and just bitter because we were stuck at Loftus Road. Lovely, lovely Loftus Road that we own.
Coventry City on 13:07 - Mar 14 with 927 views | essextaxiboy | IMO this should be a red alert for West Ham fans. To sell Upton Park and rent the Olympic Stadium is dangerous. Gold and Sullivan leak outrageous impossible transfer targets every summer to sell season tickets. They say they will invest the money raised in the team . If I supported West Ham I would not trust them . [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

When you say 'meticulously', I take it you don't mean 'meticulously' in a Mark Hughes sort of way?

Coventry City on 13:25 - Mar 14 by dangould | I mived to Coventry about 18 months ago and before moved I would agree with what most peaple say about the stadium but in fact its so easy to park at the Ricoh there buses from the station to the ground. When I went to see QPR play Coventry at the Ricoh there was about 16000 there and it was awfull however I have been to Coventry 2 times with full houses GB game at the olympics and this season against Crewe, 32000 against Crewe the place was rocking, If they get somebody to help them out they are all set to go. The ground is great when its full, its got night clubs casinos conferance halls and a Hotel last summer they had concerts by Coldplay , Springsteen and many others, the trouble they dont own the ground the council do, and the owners dont want to pay the agreed rent, |
coventry go to walsall!!?? ok, new ground, with the worst links, add a dire team and =1000s of empty seats now + rent the ground with a 15000 breakeven = disaster. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I believe it's 22,000 required every week to break even.

Well they've been playing hardball with the council along those lines, threatening to move to Rushden and Diamonds and all sorts of things - basically saying that if we leave you'll have a stadium hosting one or two concerts a year and it wouldn't be viable, even allowing for the arena and hotel attached.

That’s the biggest problem with the Ricoh… I got talking at the start of the season to a Pompey fan that I play cricket with. He was under the impression it would be a great venue to visit this season. I said to him that the whole set up is geared towards the Premier League and anything else means everything falls flat on its face. I remember a game a few years back that we won 1 — 0 (Gregory was manager and the young loaner from chelsea scored…Jimmy Smith?). There were around 2000 traveling fans trying to create an atmosphere but it was hard work… Lots of empty seats in the Coventry end, a really annoying PA announcer who insisted in greeting each of the home stands (even though he got zero response). The large score board was useless (as a scoreboard) because of the amount of adverts shown and each corner was sponsored by a different local business. Terrible, terrible advert for the Championship! It is a huge warning in covering your bases and not going for broke. TF has assured the fans that any new stadium will still retain all the atmosphere and feel of Loftus Road… I really hope this is the case. As for Coventry going into admin it might not be a bad thing. Most clubs come out of it better than when they went in!

It's a tough one because the council have to call their bluff back and say well go to Rushden and see how that helps get you back to the premier league. Maybe going into administration is the best way as it means they can renegotiate everything from scratch.
Coventry City on 17:04 - Mar 14 with 537 views | Juzzie | I took this picture about 15 minutes before kick-off when we drew 0-0 one Wednesday evening in one of the most dullest games I have ever witnessed. the crowd figure didn't get that much better come kick-off.
