Everton - Hi We want to sign Josh.
QPR - Great everyone's for sale 5 million please
Everton - are you kidding? He's played one game.
QPR - I know, isn't life unfair, bye.

If we've got him on a contract and they reckon he's that good they can pay more than £500,000. Hopefully usual clickbait nonsense.

500k not bad - plus add the usual sell on fee.... no idea how good the lad is but at least we are getting some youth players with some quality coming through

Poll: Are we gonna make the play offs?

If he is that good and with potential financial issues at the club could we sell him but take him back on loan for next season.

He looked quite good at Norwich, this story may have some truth in it as Everton have been signing quite a few young players recently, got a few from Charlton in January.

Ideally we'd get a fee for him and they'd loan him back for a year so we get money and the player next season

Says a lot that news of a potential youth talent at LR just makes me cringe thinking about Ollie having another squad option to play with.

"Up to" £3m can mean a lot of things but that seems a pretty substantial offer to reject. You'd think this meant the club have a pretty firm idea of a structured role for Bowler next season...

You may have thought you'd never hear me say such a thing but......

Credit to Chris Ramsey here.
This bit of news gives me further great hope that FINALLY we are getting our act together in the machinations of the club.

Right people in the right jobs doing the right things.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Haven't seen as much of him as others (always enjoy Smegma's insights into youth team players) but seen him 3/4 times live for our youth teams and he's always been our stand out outfield player but I'm slightly surprised by this.

Granted, it was just one match but against Spurs in the FA Youth Cup match, he didn't look near the level of the Spurs wingers and struggled against their left back. Caveat to this is that the rest of the QPR side were pretty poor and invariably Bowler was the hub of every creative move and he kinda tried to do too much. Perhaps he'd benefit from the better teammates and infrastructure at somewhere like Everton.

Definitely has ability so would like to keep hold of him.

That's similar to my view, on limited viewings of him. Nice left foot on him, good delivery, but got tonnes more developing to do. Surprised to see Everton looking at him tbh. Nice prospect, but some way behind Shodipo in the pecking order.

Would they want to loan him back if he wasn't going to get regular first team starts?

After one cameo role in which he looked pretty good, I would be pleasantly surprised if he was ready to be in our forward line for the first game in August.

The Spurs game was a long time ago in terms of youth team football. They were outclassed by the youth team of a Champions League club. As I've said before, someone has got him doing a lot of weight training as his upper body strength has improved immeasurably. He's gone from a left wing weakling to one of our strongest players. But what really impresses me is is his never say die attitude. Even when the Under 23s are losing, he'll chase a lost cause in the dying seconds. A prime example was Palace reserves away about 5 weeks ago. We were dreadful. Losing 2-0 in the last minutes to NINE men, him and Dan Derbyshire combined to create a chance and ended up winning a penalty. He slotted it in to make it four goals in the last four games. Rightly so he was added to the squad for Norwich.

Still surprised by this story though.

Thought we'd have been able to keep him under our hat for a bit tbh.

You don't keep anything under wraps in Youth team football.
When Joe Cole (remember him?) was 12, every club in SE England knew about him. I doubt if that has changed much, today.

Isn't the impulse buying of young players by Premiership clubs the very thing that everybody has been complaining about? These neglected players are then locked in cages and forgotten about. It's very cruel.

Well Everton have the ex Leicester guy as their recruitment specialist and he knows how to spot a player - all the ex-pros at QPR raved about him even before the Norwich debut.

Odd one as you can't see him playing 1st team next season yet we're turning down fairly substantial offers...

Can anyone that's seen him know if he's a left or right winger predominantly?

You seem to assemble your posts in the same way Holloway picks his team - drawing random words out of a bad.

I've seen him play twice and on each occasion he started on the left wing but went both down the line and cut inside which might suggest he's two footed. He looks quick and skillful and is hard to stop once in his stride. In one game I seem to recall that three opposition players (Coventry City if my memory serves) were booked for pulling him down. I think he's only 17 but wouldn't be surprised to see him appear in pre-season friendlies.

It'll be interesting if Everton do come back with something substantial. Are we best served keeping a player to develop, or sell for a couple of million and spend it on 1 old school Championship bastard defender?
