Absolutely correct about modern football. It's all about extracting as much money as possible from the punter, to pay footballers (many of them mediocre in the extreme) and their agents obscene amounts of money. From the players point of view it's about doing as little as they can for as much as they can get - as has been obvious for some time with our players (the Swansea game, not to mention previous games before Christmas, clearly showed that the players are capable if they put in the effort), but not only our players. I would imagine there are many fans of teams all around the country with similar views on their own players. The football industry relies on supporters continuing to fork out money as "loyal fans" irrespective of the paucity of the product on offer but I suspect things are now starting to change. Clubs can only play the "loyalty" card for so long, eventually people will realise they are being taken for mugs. | |
