EFL cup confusion... on 12:10 - Aug 16 with 1257 views | LongsufferingR | Because Huddersfield were the lowest placed side last year. For the figures to add up, they need the lowest placed of last year's PL sides to play in the first round. Cardiff, Fulham plus current PL sides not in Europe join in round 2, then the others join in round 3.

EFL cup confusion... on 12:15 - Aug 16 with 1212 views | CamberleyR | Looking a previous years, it seems the club that finishes last in the PL enters in the first round of the League Cup. Only checked the last couple of seasons but Sunderland and West Brom who finished last in the PL in 2016/17 and 2017/18 respectively both entered the LC at the first round the following season after relegation.

Thanks mate, I guessed that might be the case, even though it doesn't seem exactly fair..

Isn't really any other way to do it once they decided clubs in Europe would get byes through to round 3. 70 teams in round one so 35 winners plus Cardiff, Fulham and 13 PL sides not in Europe = 50 teams in round two then 25 winners plus 7 teams in Europe = 32 teams in round three 16 winners round 4 8 winners round 5 4 winners round 6 2 winners in final QPR lift trophy
