Come on E15, if you try and police what people should or shouldn’t be taking about by claiming the moral high ground, people will probably respond in kind. The Ainsworth topic is obviously a touchy subject for you for whatever reason, perhaps because you were so invested in his success or know him personally. But it’s a public messageboard and people are free to express their views. Also insinuating some haven’t moved on…. is a bit rich coming from the person who walked straight back into the Ainsworth topic at the first mention! 🙄 enjoy your Saturday evening, we are staying up! |

Still defending Ainsworth to the hilt E15! Can only assume you must be a family friend Given how close we were to the drop thanks to Ainsworth, fans have every right and reason to revisit the subject as they wish. All aboard the Marti Party! |

Think some underestimate the impact of his injury problems on his game - he clearly couldn’t sprint or plant his feet earlier in the campaign. Maybe psychological, but whatever the case, he’s come through it. Still our best talent for me. Not surprised if he’s talking with interested parties e.g. Sunderland, as his agent will only naturally be flogging him about for maximum $. But still hold out some hope he may resign. Would love for him to stay. |

In answer, not really no. I’ve watched Sinclair since he was in the 18s and originally posted on here about his potential. I commented at the time, he had explosive pace, but no hold up game - and that needed to improve if he was to make it at this level. Currently, there has not been enough improvement in that regard - both touch and technique, and I wonder if he can ever get to the levels needed. And that’s before we talk about finishing. There is a LOT to work on. Jury is definitely out for me. Would love for him to stay of course, definitely some raw attributes to work with. But not for silly money that he agent may want. |

On the topic of Armstrong as a winger, all his current challenges as a striker, lack of touch, technique, skill, end-product, etc will not be solved by shifting position out wide. And unfortunately I don’t see anything in his current game that indicates he will be more effective as striker than as a winger. Pace alone - his best trait - won’t be enough, as most wingers receive the ball with midfielders and defenders ahead of them. So you need to beat them from a standing start or front them up. But attempting to kick the ball past them, or over their heads, Rugby style, and out-sprinting your opponent is very Sunday league and won’t cut it in the championship. As a modern winger you need the ability to beat a man, or two, through a combination of dribbling ability and skill. eg shoulder drops, chops, step overs etc, none of which Armstrong has in his locker. Then once you beat a man, you need end product, either a crossing ability from wide, or the ability to drive out to in, through dribbling skill, and then play the cut back pass Man City-style - neither of which I have seen in Armstrongs game either |

And Hull have Plymouth last game of the season, who are also not yet safe and currently below us. Assuming the stay in the play off mix. Hull got Ipswich next mind, which could go either way. |

Wasn’t Chris Ramsay our manager in the championship? If so, how can he have managed a team against Man City? Edit: just seen he took over in the prem, so ignore! Does sound like Ramsay being referenced. [Post edited 24 Apr 18:02]

That Wednesday result ensures we are not yet safe. A 3-point swing between us and third spot Brum is possible next weekend. We have a tough game v Leeds. Given the table, it wouldn’t be a surprising defeat. And Brum play Hudds, who they can definitely beat. That would reduce the gap to one point between us and Brum! Obviously a few teams in between, but does show it’s not over. |

Furlong has been coaching Armstrong since the u18s, where he was Armstrongs manager for 2 seasons. He also then coached him in the u21 set up when Armstrong stepped up into that age group, along with Furlong who was promoted to the u21 setup. |

The strike a Leicester can be put down to excellent positioning and anticipation. Or alternatively more of a lucky to be there type strike. And unfortunately his statistics suggest the latter. Hes not shown he’s a finisher. I love his work rate and his channel play, but his ability to play a central 9 role is severely lacking. It may come good, but the jump there is quite significant. For me, it’s not an either or, discussion. Right now, Armstrong is a player of potential. I’ve yet to see anyone “binning him off”. He may come good, me maybe he quote good, or he may not make the grade. But for me; he already shown he’s a weapon off the bench. Like smyth perhaps. And perhaps that may be the limit. Time will tell. [Post edited 7 Apr 18:50]

There has been a lot of clamour to start Armstrong and today showed why that’s not very a good idea, especially as a lone striker. Weaknesses were exposed quite dramatically today I thought. Yes he’s good in the channel, but he also stifled our entire play. It’s all about the balance. The players look baffled about how to approach the final third, chair especially. You can’t pass into him, you can’t cross. And if the channel pass is not on, you are pretty much done. At this stage of his career, there is much work to be done, Sinclair is a weapon off the bench, or needs to he part of a two man strikeforce. |

Ben Williams was hired by the club and identified through the data-driven recruitment approach that also identified Marti. It does seen that there is a positive correlation between Williams joining and our injury record this year. Well done to the club and all those involved. Ainsworth did hire the fitness coach Dave Wates who he worked with long term at Wycombe who has remained at the club. |

If there was a lack of respect it’s on him. Good leaders earn respect and poor ones lose it, quickly. You don’t have to look far to understand why he might have not have had everyone pulling in the same direction. For example, explaining how the championship was “scary”, how everything was “tough”, his relentless underdog nonsense (= literally telling the team they are second best), and inferior undertone crap in virtually every interview. That’s no way to build the very culture he claimed he was great at. Ironically, he did the opposite! Viva Cifuentes. |

Was already on the clubs radar long term and nearly joined under Warbs. Very much a club signing by the sound of it. |

Personally, I wasn’t a fan of Iroegbunam, whilst acknowledging he has talent. Talented, but lacks a defined position. Neither an attacker or defensive player, and seemingly not got the energy, hunger and desire needed to be box to box. I’d be surprised if he’s makes it at villa. Aoraha is currently injured long term with a broken leg, which is a big shame as he was on the cusp of being given first team opportunities, as stated by Cifuentes himself. One of a very few select group of our youngsters who I thought could make it as this level having watched the u21s regularly over the last 10 years or so. |

“We’d taken a kid on loan and were paying quite a lot of money. And he’d had a couple of horror games. .. and this is what I’m talking about, development and giving people an opportunity. You’ll take someone from a Tottenham or an Arsenal, take them on loan, and allow them to play badly, in 10 games, but your very own you give 1 game to; and if he plays like that; you’re like right he’s out the door [from the managers perspective]. And that’s the only time I’ve had an argument with the manager.” The context suggested to me it was related to a young player. A young prem loan, blocking our own young player that Les was not happy with. Either way, it was a fascinating listen behind the scenes. |

Could also have been Tim Iroegbunam. Had some shockers and was certainly not deserving of a starting place at times. Beale played a big part, which fits Ferdinand’s story. There were penalty clauses for not playing him. And from what I’ve seen of Alex Aoraha, who plays the same position, I’d much prefer Aoraha. A player we own, who has genuine quality, but who has not yet had a chance. |

Sorry but his link up play is definitely not fine. It’s extremely poor and nowhere near the required standard. He has no hold-up game, and no combination play. And if you lose the ball more than 4 times in every 10 passes, there is a problem. I want to like him, and previously did, but he seems to have really regressed. Perhaps he has struggled more than most with the confusion of Warburtons passing style, then Ainsworths direct style, and now back to MCs passing style. As a previous poster said, the ball just bounces off him like a trampoline! He’s become quite infuriating to watch. |
