FA Cup Replays Scrapped

They were showing, what, 7 games over the round 3 and 4 weekends? There's room for both! This year was a disgraceful set of choices.

it's not the manager making that decision.
A lot of blaming of wrong people going on here.

I have had to watch all the FA Cup games this season for work (lucky me) and not one big team has phoned it in. Someone else on this page said it's the same teams in the final every year. It can't be both things. I think all the clubs treat it pretty well actually. League Cup - total agreement - but it's more the middling to lower Prem clubs than the top ones not taking it seriously, and that's idiotic.

Agree with a lot of stuff here and on this thread.
VAR is the most boring invention in the history of the game.
Only having VAR for Prem teams at home in the Cup is ludicrous.

I will however, say things like: it's pretty common for people as they get older to think they don't like or want to watch as much football as they used to. That's both because football has changed but also we have and life takes over - as you mention with Goldbridge, there's a whole generation at least as obsessed with football as people roughly our age were when we were their age (even if some of them never leave their armchairs to watch it - but that wasn't unusual back then either (and in fact attendances accross the Prem and FL are far higher now than 30 years ago). And to that end, just blaming Sky for everything always seems a little unfair to me. What clubs do with their money is not Sky's fault. Nor is it Sky's fault they filled a void that other broadcasters couldn't be bothered with. We call them Sky Sports Leeds but those of us who watched football in the 80s will remember that The Big Match on Sunday afternoons only ever featured about 4 different teams. At least Sky do show variety. On top of that, all fans (not least our own) campaigned for owners to pour money into their clubs. We got what we demanded, and the genie got out of the bottle. Not saying it's fans fault, but I find all the blaming of Sky as a generic villain a bit tiresome - they have blame for sure, but there's a lot more of it to be shared around.

I do agree with you, I used to love multi-replays. But maybe because the FA Cup doesn't have the cache it once did, or maybe because we are so bad in it, I don't have much interest in it. i think the vast majority of teams want games to be done on the first go, and actually I think that might benefit some smaller sides. If we're arguing about the finances, how many teams have had a genuinely money-spinning *replay* in the last 5 years? A few? But hardly any, and in fact, far more teams probably lose money putting on replays with poor attendances. It is a bit of a shame, but I also think cup competitions should be cup competitions: you get one crack at it, not multiple cracks. When we beat Everton on pens in the other cup, it was fantastic - we'd have likely got gubbed in any replay.
If we're talking purely finances, then whoever covers the Cup (currently BBC and ITV) should be forced to be more interesting with their game picks. Maidstone should have been a live game the Round before they finally got on telly, for example, instead of one of the boring all Prem ties. In fact, all Prem ties should be banned from having full match coverage until Round 5. that TV money would be far better distributed to smaller clubs.

I dunno. Are they?
For maybe one club a season. Maybe.
I know I'm going to be in a massive minority on this, but I won't miss them. No ET either - straight to pens please.
(Although I have no truck with the 'too many games' arguments spouted lately. Just rest and rotate your players you moaning tw@ts. Particularly Guardiola, who has enough players to field three teams who'd do well in the Prem - or, you know, just don't bother playing in the Champions League?).

Again, I don't think what we have in this squad means that the selection of this player or that player is particularly vital. What is vital is getting performances out of those that DO play.

Unless they're called Gallen or Cook ;)

Loved Cookie so much. One of my all time faves. Even Lyndon might have scored a few from his crosses.

They may have done. But I bet they would never have considered doing it during a relegation battle. Ray loved Chelsea (but also QPR), but the idea he's even have considered for a second doing what Begovic did last night is a joke.

It should be said that our youth set up in the 90s (and maybe earlier?) was mainly based around nicking talent from other clubs.
Don't dig too deep into the 90s youth set-up though, eh?

I haven't seen this, but if true, it's the last straw for me. We're in a relegation battle which we would have been out of if not for his flappy hands, and he is, for better or worse, the effing captain of this team. WHAT THE ACTUAL FK IS HE DOING AT A CHELSEA GAME - in the home end, cheering them on? Can you IMAGINE anyone else doing that? I'd actually be tempted to drop him for it and i'm surprised there's less chat about it on here (people probably, and rightly, bored with the Bego thread so haven't seen it!)

I was willing to overlook the podcast to a degree, but this is too far. I won't be booing him on Saturday as we need a positive atmosphere, but I cannot wait for him to fk off.

Idiotic advice. It's like in tennis: returners are reacting in some way before the ball is hit to clues about bodyshape etc - otherwise they'd stand no chance against big servers. Keepers need to read and anticipate as - and I can't believe some actual managers didn't know this - they do with almost every shot.

Chelsea's chuck sh!t (money) at a wall (of glue?) and see what sticks finally works. Not for one of their plethora of £100m wastes of money, but for one who cost a mere £40m. Barely gets you a Gibbs-White.
Rare misstep from Pep - he would walk into their team.

Was on his insta about 3 months ago, but then all went quiet. I assumed it hadn't actually happened, but when they announced the Field contract extension about 3 months after he'd signed it, I changed my mind. Suspect it'll be announced in the summer (could be wrong!)
