FIFA are in serious danger of turning this tournament into the Eurovision Song Contest of football. You could accept a bit of politicing in the host nation bidding although Jack Warner tore the arse out of it and should do bird. Overturning on the pitch decisions is a completely different kettle of fish though has set a dangerous precedent. |

The biggest sanction possible is ยฃ20,000 which is what they got for doing exactly the same thing in 2014. I'd consider ยฃ20,000 a reasonable price to pay for being able to trail a banner saying "Donald Trump is a massive cรนnt" - might even get away with arguing that's not political, just fact. |

Duggan didn't deserve to be on the losing side and nearly wasn't as Nickie Quaid nearly channelled Rob Green at the end but it's fine margins and as Hegarty said at the end, Limerick have more experience being in those holes. |

All true and they're awesome to watch in full flow but Sweden were shockingly negative. Two of the most expensive strikers in the Premier league and they couldn't be arsed to get above a jog. Only the keeper and Elanga looked interested.
Japan showed, albeit briefly, what ratting down the ball can achieve even if you're outclassed technically. |

I wouldn't fancy facing pens from Matthaus and Brehme to be fair - if I remember correctly they could both kill a ball to death without much in the way of backlift. |

The problem with Anthony Gordon is he needs Sky commentators to remind everyone it's his birthday every seven or eight minutes. Take that away and it's like cutting Aslan's mane. Basically England need to play QPR live on sky* in every game of the last 64 teams.
*football is nothing without supporters/mugs |

Tchouameni and Rabiot are going to be busy for the next few weeks as the lads in front of them have zero interest in tracking back but then again, why would they when they're pulling attacking performances like that out of the bag? |
