Kolli
at 18:33 8 Nov 2025

To me, Kolli is a promising young player. He is not the 'real deal' yet, but he has done well enough for a lad who hasn't had a long run of games.

I certainly would not write him off at this point. I've seen more than enough to think he could come good over time.

He is a Rangers lad, whose level of application is high. The background stuff I treat as 'noise' because the accusations pointed at his attitude are unproven. From what I see, he cares.

Let's cut the lad some slack and encourage him.

His dad, however frustrated he might be, does need to stop the negative posting. It makes things even more complicated for Rayan.

Corners and Free Kicks
at 10:06 6 Nov 2025

I have to say I've noticed how unexcited I get these days when we win a free kick or corner. My expectation levels are on the floor. It's not just how infrequently we score, it's how we create so little threat.

I love Illy but his set pieces are rarely a thing of beauty.

Absolutely riveting series and final game. Two great teams with contrasting strengths giving it their all. Really could have gone either way at several different junctures.

Feel sorry for the Jays who must have thought the dream was coming true in that ninth innings.

Blue Jays ahead and the last two games are back in Canada. Could the surprise be on?

What a performance by the rookie pitcher who started the season at a club four divisions below the majors. Amazing stuff by Yesavage! (And what a great name : )

BTW forgot to mention there is a photo of me at Citizens Bank Park wearing an R's shirt that got printed in a Rangers matchday programme! I'll have to dig it out and remind myself what I looked like before I became a silver fox!

The Phillies are my team. Watched my first ever ball game at Citizen's Bank and fell in love with them. Went and watched them at West Ham last year.

I was, however, in Toronto on the night the Blue Jays won the World Series in '93. Absolutely amazing night. The streets were full of people celebrating late into the night. It reminded me of pictures of VE Day. One of the most vivid memories of my life.

Was really hopeful the Phillies would do it this year, but was not to be. Hence, I am right behind the Blue Jays. They've gotten off to a good start, so fingers crossed for them.

Our Loftus Road
at 10:45 21 Sep 2025

This is the 49th season since my first visit to LR. In the first game I ever saw, the Rs beat Stoke with goals from Givens and Bowles.

Maybe it was the emotion built up from seeing our greatest ever team on the pitch at half time yesterday, but just after we went in front, I turned to me son and said "I just love this old place."

When the team is playing well and the crowd gets behind it, there is something special about this stadium. The noise just flows out onto the pitch and we become the twelfth man in a way that is so immediate and present. You just know the players can feel it.

Despite the lack of legroom and the 'dated' facilities, I just have no real desire for us ever to move anywhere else. It would be so hard to replicate what is so great. Just love it!

Here end the ramblings of an aging dinosaur : )

Norrington-Davis thoughts?

I was pleasantly surprised after reading the negative vibes from SU sources.

A very competent and reassuring performance. If he can sustain and build on that I will be very satisfied.

Playing Walsh after the 7-1 defeat
at 12:35 31 Aug 2025

I was in the School End and the shot was taken right in front of me. Your take is exactly what I thought at the time. A bit of a freak goal, that makes the keeper look bad - but is not really his fault.

Not that it stopped a bloke behind me giving him personal pelters for the remainder of the game - which I am certain Walsh could hear. Just what a young keeper needs as he tries to rebuild confidence.

We are of the same mind and maybe should have been a bit clearer.

I don't want to avoid playing it out from the back at any cost. It's a useful option at times and against certain opponents.

What bewilders me is that the story of the last 50 games is the cost of primarily playing it out from the back is losing! Not only do we do it in a slow and apprehensive way, it doesn't work as a lead strategy. Now we have trumpeted our 'game model' to the world and its uncle, everyone expects it and knows how to counter it.

We are too late jumping on a bandwagon that others are now jumping off.

After 45 minutes against Preston, I foolishly allowed my hope to burn brightly.

We looked energetic, were getting the ball forward quickly, Madsen looked like the player he was at the end of last season. Poku looked really good and "We've finally cracked it" was the thought that entered my mind.

That 45 minutes seems a long time ago now. As Norf mentioned, so many of the same, seemingly obvious problems are hobbling us once again.

We have some very decent players in a fully fit team (a nice notion) but our game model has failed us consistently since the beginning of last season. I am pretty sure we would see something better if we let it go.

To my mind, if there ever was a time to embrace building slowly from the back, it certainly isn't now. Teams have had a few seasons now to work out how to counteract it, whilst we are apparently still (painfully) learning how to do it.

We are not going to surprise any decent teams playing that way; it is nerve-shredding for the players and supporters; and we don't have the right personnel.

I sometimes feel like we build our philosophy from the Arsenal playbook. Wenger and Arteta both seemed determined to ignore the obvious flaws in midfield/strikers (respectively), despite everyone watching Arsenal saying the same thing. The only reason we are not in L1 is because we abandoned it for a substantial period last season. This is not rocket science.

What do you expect from the Charlton game?
at 14:21 26 Aug 2025

I am keeping my expectations very low. Reasons being:

* None of the new signings are actually match fit, so we cannot expect too much from them
* Varane, Dunne and Kone are still working their way back to match fitness
* I suspect we will continue to deploy our 'game plan' which is now in its third iteration (and failed dismally in its first two forms)
* I am unsure what the manager can do much differently if his hands are as tied as is rumoured.

It costs me around £100 to get to a home game. That certainty wasn't value for money today.

But I did learn something. I learned what a team passing out from the back and knocking the ball around can look like in the Championship. Quick movement, fast progression of the ball, purposeful probing and switching and players making themselves available in the right places on the pitch. Unfortunately, ...it wasn't us.

I'd like to think (in one way) that we were not trying, but my impression during the game was that Burnley was on another level. We looked shell-shocked, rather than on the beach. They are 44 points ahead of us today, and it looked like that.

The parachute payment stuff has created such an imbalance that automatic promotion places now look out of reach for most clubs, including us.

We looked very good against Leeds for 20 minutes, but they grew into the game and the disparity between the resources available to both teams became very apparent. I almost laughed at the quality of players they were able to bring on.

This was a very sobering day for me, with two hours 'on me tod' getting home to get (non-clinically) depressed about it : (

He needs to be mentioned more. Such a stand-out player in that team.

Such a shame about his injuries.

Gave his signing-on fee to the club to help it in desperate times. Top player and good guy.

Dave Thomas for me too. I used to play on the wing and roll down my socks just because of him.

Was on holiday at my grandad's caravan in Pagham when I saw the newspaper. Left me absolutely gutted. I never imagined he would leave the hoops. Became one of those bitter 'growing up' moments.

As an adult, the way we let Macca go was scandalous. Absolutely the wrong thing to do for a guy who had been so good for us and to us. Mammoth defender at the highest level. I hope we do something to put it right with his family (if we haven't already) because he was truly top class.

Funnily enough I was thinking the same thing this afternoon. Edwards leaves it all out there on the pitch and was throwing himself into tackle right until the end. The effort and commitment to getting a result is admirable for any player, let alone a loanee. Superb effort.

Spot on. And if Jimmy is off too, that is going to be a very large hole - and incredibly hard to fill.

If there is any chance of signing Edwards, we should dive right in. One of the best defenders I have seen here in a long time.

I think Dickie had to move. His form and confidence had cratered and he looked lost. Elements of the crowd were on his back and I thought he needed a restart elsewhere.

I'm actually pleased he has been doing well. My son's mate is a City fan and came with us yesterday. He really rates Dickie.

Sincs, unfortunately, in his opinion, does not seem to have developed much beyond what we saw. I didn't feel inclined to boo him though.

Wells wanted to stay with us. His club wanted the fee, so off to City he went.
