He is an excellent manager, who had proved himself in the championship, who had links to Saints and who is a character full of energy and enthusiasm. But no, not for Sports Republic. An experienced championship manager who we all liked, and would have got fully behind him - Oh no SR had other ideas, probably because Rohl cost a few million more, and probably because Rohl is a confident, strong manager who would have told Sport Republic where to shove their pathetic ideas.
So Sport Republic and Spors thought I know let's do an experiment and appoint someone who has never managed in England before and someone who is as dull as dishwater. And then again, when that didn't work (because yes men with no experience doesn't work), we appoint another inexperienced, unknown manager (or head coach as they say, whomis also as dull as dishwater) so that they can rule him around as their next yes man.
I don't always listen to these, but I think this sums up how we are all feeling. St Mary's will become very toxic soon, once again like the Preston game, if we don't sort this out now. Stop playing out from the back. I agree, it's boring and ineffective. Fans will boo the team every time they do it. We don't want it. And stop lying to us Eckert. Tell us how much we need a striker instead of saying you are happy with the squad. If we end up faltering around 15th in the Championship, I think the fans will 99 per cent agree, we must get Sports Republic out.
This is true. Now that teams are pressing high when we play out from the back, we can't get out. The option to go long is not an option, because 6ft 5, defenders just win the ball, so we end up with the only option of passing between our defenders in our own yard box because there just arn't any other options. The midfielders are marked up and our strikers are too small.
A scapegoat to blame when it goes wrong, hence every manager fails. Sport Republic don't want anyone coming in and ripping up their ways, which is exactly what an experienced, strong manager would do. They want yes men, that's we keep getting them. And did you notice that Tonda's title is Head Coach not manager? Sport Republic will destroy this club and we will be just like Reading in league one with empty seats everywhere. It will just take a few seasons to happen, when the money runs out and then it will all be too late.
And that game was crying out for Quasie too. A fast paced, strong defender against Millwall would have really helped us today. But despite being excellent the last time he played, in comes Stephens again.
He took him off at Oxford to keep him fresh, we lost the game, then he didn't play him from the start at Birmingham. He then takes him off at half term today, when he was the only one running at them and getting stuck.in. Tonda is an idiot it seems.
Happy New Year Nick. This is a place where freedom of speech isn't curtailed, we can give our honest opinions not just on the Saints, but on a range of topics. We can't change minds or persuade if people are gagged, as you say even if anyone strongly disagrees.
Let's hope for a prosperous 2026 and hope the Saints push on from here.
P.s Hopefully with a new goalkeeper and new owners 😜
He has played in the Bundesliga this year on loan at Hamburg. He has had appearances for Bayern Munich. Sounds like a good signing to me. He is actually Israeli and is the Israeli number one goalkeeper. Hopefully it comes off.
The Daily Echo are reporting that we will be signing a new Goalkeeper. Hope it's true. Bayern Munich sounds like a good place to get a goalkeeper from.
And one of the stewards with a brummie accent, intervened in our conversation about Millwall being the next game, saying he also supported Millwall, see you at St Mary's he said.
1) The tanoy speakers are loud, with some great music played. Much better than the speakers at St Mary's that you can barely hear and the constant adverts and Videos on the St Mary's screens on repeat that nobody can hear.
2) Came up by coach. Nick's coaches are excellent. We got there well in time, and some excellent manoeuvres from the coach drivers to turn the coach around in the very small coach park! Got back to Southampton about 1:15. All very comfortable.
3) I like Birmingham's ground. It's in the same category as Millwall and Leeds, quite edgy, bit intimidating (hope we all avoided the bottle thrown from above?) and it's an old school place to visit. The Saints fans I thought were loud last night. An evening game allows people to have a few drinks and then they sing louder I always find.
4) Saints at least found some spirit, and fought hard for a point. Other than that, it's disappointing, we have been found out and we will struggle to make the play offs. It's not quite flowing. Interesting to notice that Saints eventually did stop playing out from the back, when Birmingham got so high up on us. Tonda is at a massive disadvantage, with everyone saying he isn't experienced enough. Jelert looks promising. Does this mean Frllows can go further up the pitch? Why not start Sciensa, after bringing him off at Oxford to protect him? Doesn't make sense. If he was going to be rested at Birmingham, why was he brought off at Oxford??? And where was Romeu, not even on the bench. Has Tonda decided he has had his day?
5) Nick, I think I saw you about the 4th row from the back standing next to a woman and the young guy you mentioned. I was in the back row, further into the block. I was going to come down to say hello at half term but you disappeared, no doubt for a beer?
Birmingham is the loudest stadium I have ever been to, when it's full and their team is playing well. I am going tomorrow, and I went when Strachan was manager and we lost 3-2. The whole ground was singing keep right on, every stand with real intensity. St Andrews is really loud and intense. Under the lights at Christmas for an evening game could be an unpleasant experience if we don't turn up. I watched one of their games on Sky this season when the whole ground is shouting "Who?" after every substitution. St Mary's could learn from how intense it is there.
We had a brick put through the coach, when I went in 2003. Very intimidating stadium.
I am not sure how it can be said that these same players who tore Charlton apart, thrashed Birmingham, Leicester, WBA scoring lots of goals are suddenly "too similar" . They were the same similar players who won 5 1 a few weeks back.
This was Oxford. No disrespect intended, but they certainly haven't spent 50 million on the team, they have only won one game in 10 and were in the bottom three! We can't beat them because Oxford "sussed us out"??? We have much more expensive players than they have, and we can't suss them out??? This wasn't just a one off bad day either. We also lost to another team.in the bottom three at Norwich the week before.
There was an article from.Nick "Why is there so much hate on social media?" Many fans could see us losing to Norwich and losing to Oxford. They predicted what was likely to happen. It's embarrassing, it's humiliating and a reminder of just far we have dropped since Sport Republic began destroying this club. We just knew that a performance like we got at Oxford was coming. There is an inner anger inside our long suffering fans about the laughing stock we have become. There is a lazy culture in the club, a lack of ambition, and a culture of excuses. Why is it three or four of our best players can't last 90 minutes? It's pathetic in my opinion. Get them fitter!!
These players wanted Tonda, got excited that Still was gone played really well for a few weeks, hot Tonda the job, now they are back to barely lifting a finger. We need an experienced manager, some really ambitious statements of intent and some determination from all at the club. It's just utter sh!t from top to.bottom. Watching Villa go third in the PL, with top players lasting the whole game, a superb manager in Emery, just reminded me of the complete c@ck ups at Saints and what we could have become.
Lose to Pompey, play like a bunch of wet puppies and collapse like a paper tower, it will be too much to bare.
I disagree, I think they did want Tonda all along. Otherwise, why did they not put Lallana in temporary charge or Trollop? They promoted Tonda immediately from the under 21s. They didn't make such big changes without an eye on Tonda getting the job. Spors knew Tonda and wanted him from the start because he knows him and he was cheap.
I'm sure he has been given some reason about protecting him. But honestly these f@cking modern ways, that just mean we lose do my head in. He came off at Blackburn (to protect him) amd he came off yesterday (to protect him) and the result is zero points from both games. Great, he's been protected but we lost both! Is is not better to leave him on the pitch to help just win the game!!! What is the point of losing but he will be fresh for another game, only to be taken off in the second half ready for another defeat! All of these modern day thoughts just result in defeats!
Had he stayed on the pitch yesterday, we might have had 3 extra points, even if he can't start Monday because of it. Instead we have zero points! Keep taking off our best players, kills the game. Just let them be a bit tired!!!
Nothing changes whilst Sport Republic are here. They like yes men, who are young and inexperienced so that they do as they are told and question nothing. We are stuck with Tonda, unless it gets a terrible situation like it did with Still. Then the next young hipster manager comes in.
