QPR face a decent start, and a nightmare finish
at 16:06:42

It's pretty unlikely, but the nightmare scenario is getting relegated at Stamford Bridge on third last day of the season...

LFW end of term report part two — every player assessed

I hate to disagree with anything you write Clive, given the brilliant standard of the site, but I think you're being a little harsh on Hall. I take your point that his inability to play five games in a row makes it tough for those around him, but he has come in and played well in games where at least two of Connelly, Gorkks or Shittu were in the middle of a form meltdown. He has also been a half decent late substitute to come on and help us hold a lead / draw. I'd definitely keep him for next season, although not as a starter.

And at the risk of getting lynched, I think you've been a little generous with Mackie. I agree he was absolutely excellent for the first quarter of the season, and his workrate and attitude are fantastic and lifted everyone, but in the run up to his injury I was beginning to have heretical thoughts about comparing the start of his QPR career to Agyemang's. His goals had more or less dried up, and I think that replacing him with Routledge was an upgrade that our attack needed as the season wore on, not least because it added in some much needed pace and a counter attacking threat running on to balls over the top.

I may well be wrong, but I'm not sure Mackie would have got straight back in the team ahead of Smith or Routledge if he'd regained fitness before the end of the season.

Overall, you're right to say we were incredibly lucky with injuries. Even losing Mackie was offset by adding players at least as good, and it's amazing that a player as skilful (and hence kicked) as Adel played practically every single game. If he's had his leg broken before Christmas do you think we would have won the league?

Late agony prolongs QPR’s 15 year wait — full match report
at 10:06:25

Totally agree about feeling deflated, which is a bit strange when you consider that we were promoted to all intents and purposes on Saturday. The FA hearing is hanging over everything, plus Hull's late equaliser, Faurlin's free kick, Norwich's late winner and our recent stumbling form have left everything feeling a bit flat. The team were clearly exhausted after the heat of the Cardiff game, if only we had Norwich's extra days off we might have had the energy to get a late winner like they did.

Still, we really only need a point from our last two games, both against teams with nothing to play for, so you would back us to get that given our form throughout the season and even over the last five games. You would think we would be more fired up than either Watford or Leeds. Also, if Norwich don't beat Portsmouth away on Monday - which we didn't earlier in the season and neither did Swansea the other week - we're champions whatever happens (FA permitting).

On the subject of the FA, Warnock on the radio described the whole situation as having been blown up by the media, by which I took him to mean that they were exaggerating the possibility of a points deduction. The FA has never said it's likely, just that it's among the possibly punishments which I assume is the case for most infringements in theory.

Can't go to Watford, but fingers crossed for a massive celebration party against Leeds with everything sorted - can't wait to see Adel lift that trophy.

Another cup failure as Vale march on — full match report

Just to add a further level of irritation, we would have got Fulham in the next round. It would have been at Craven Cottage, but none the less a good day out and perhaps a chance to take on a weakened team, rather than fielding one ourselves.

Another cup failure as Vale march on — full match report
at 14:01:26

The guy behind me in the lower Loft nearly started a fight at the end by shouting abuse at Neil Warnock, and I can kind of see his point. Since when did we consider the League Cup beneath us? It's not like we're Man Utd, this competition even more than the FA Cup could offer the chance for some success and much needed excitement as many of the teams above us play their reserve teams.

Instead, Warnock clearly wasn't bothered if we lost, and gave up on the game by sending on two Youth teamers when we pulled it back to 3-1. If Faurlin had come on, or if Taraabt had even been on the bench, we could have pulled it back.

Not that we should ever have been in that position in the first place, but it's clear that a large proportion of our squad is at about League Two level.

I don't mind us losing - I've got used to that - but for the club to go into the match without even trying to win is a new one and to be honest it really wound me up. Now instead of heading to Sheffield on a high we'll go up with the wind comprehensively out of our sails and expecting a drubbing.
