Full pelt theoretically - a game state where we are unable to ease off in any way. Having been to four or five away games this season I think I have seen us score one goal. Charlton was appalling, no doubt. We may look like we ease off for half the season, but I rarely actually doubt that they're trying. Clueless sometimes and occasionally lacking any quality. Blackburn at the weekend was a bit different though - I thought we did look from quite early on as though the win would be a formality. Then they scored and it gave us a jolt. We scored. They scored again and we really wasn't up for the fight at that point. |

In the past month Millwall have beaten Charlton 4-0, Wrexham 2-0 and Watford 2-0. Derby's last two victories have been 2-0 and 5-0. |

I'm a bit surprised that Sam Field's absence is doing so much in people's minds to limit us. Field is a useful utility player who can come on and work hard, plug some gaps and put a tackle in (for which he will receive a yellow card) in the right circumstances. But in possession he slows us down and for me is the least progressive central midfield option we have. Letting him go on loan may have been an error because we're so light in the position overall but assuming the deal is he moves to Norwich permanently should they stay up and we receive a reasonable fee for him then it seems good business with a view to giving the likes of Morgan, Isak and others game time. |

My theory on this is that we play too much of the season at full pelt. In this age of data I am sure there must be a metric for it but essentially when we win games we typically don't cruise to 2-0 or 3-0 victories. Leicester H and Sheffield Wed H are the only two games I can think of where we might have had scope to dial down the intensity or take key players off. As it happens by half time in the Sheffield Wed game we'd already lost three players to injury. This marginality of win is the reason we were never likely to put an extended run together and why we struggle with the dreaded three game weeks. The evidence for this is in our goal difference. Yes, this is skewed still by the Coventry debacle but we've consistently been the only side in the top 15 of the league with a negative GD and you have to go down to Charlton in 18th for a GD that's worse than ours. Only two in the top 17 (us and Swansea have negative GDs). Look at Nicolas Madsen. Since 28 October he has not only started every game but he's played almost every minute of those games. Because we were comfortable against Leicester he was removed after 75 mins and he came off at 83 mins at West Brom A . So until he was withdrawn injured on Saturday he'd played pretty much every minute of every game and within those matches, for the reasons set out above, we're also not able to steadily knock the ball around from a position of numerical superiority. In the last 25 minutes of matches we're generally chasing games, clinging on or it's level pegging. This is also why I think we struggle to develop younger players. Being two or three goals up with 20 mins to go would be the time to give Esquerdinha, Adamson, Smith, Bennie and others some game time. |

He's started, I think, one game and was MoM (one of the pre-Euros friendlies). Spent the Euros coming off the bench to varying degrees of success but his longest period on the pitch saw him play about 30 mins at left wing back. The rest of the time was spent quite rigidly on the left of midfield |

Couldn't agree with this more. He's obviously into his psychology and wanted to breed that underdog spirit but on arrival he immediately went too far and it's got worse since. Sure, play that card when we're lining up against Leicester and Southampton but we are - in name at least - a Championship club - with a mix of experienced players and some decent younger players. Unfortunately, I think if you continue to tell players that they're out of their depth and that determination and graft is their only route to success. But half of this team were at the top of this league 12 months ago and with all due respect we could all probably have told him they aren't the dogs of war type. |

Not to disagree with any of the sentiment here but a reminder that the Loftus Road faithful decried 'Warbsball' because it involved too much 'sideways' passing and not enough either direct football or free-flowing attacking passing (because Luke Amos and Sam Field are not Xavi and Iniesta). And also because we were stuck around 10th in the league year after year. As an aside I am always surprised that we see ourselves as having a culture of attractive football. Maybe in the 70s but nowadays the crowd groans when we play out from the back. |

Also noticed this. It happened immediately after a ball across the six yard area that three of our players were unable to get to. The last of the three arriving just too late was Willock. Could be completely wrong but took it to be that the two veteran strikers were explaining to Willock that he could/should be getting more into the sorts of positions and gambling at the back post to score goals. |
