Parachute Payments
at 14:28 3 Feb 2022

With the obvious skewing of the Championship due to parachute payments I've been wondering whether there is an alternative. There must be an argument to not having them at all given huge amounts of money that clubs receive in the Premier League.

As I understand it the point of the parachute payments are to protect clubs that have to spend large amounts of money to be competitive in the top tier should they get relegated. Do they HAVE to spend the money? Probably, otherwise the 3 that go up will nearly always be the ones to come down.

Rather than giving a fixed amount to a relegated club could the payments be tied into the contracts of the players they have? For a contract that is signed when a PL club the PP will cover x% for the remainder of the contract. If the player leaves then they no longer get that payment. In the current set up, if Leeds get relegated, they'll most likely sell Raphinha and get a large payment but they'll also get PP to help cover his wages.

You can probably tell I'm far from an expert, so I expect that there are many holes in my logic.

Offside question
at 17:53 14 Jan 2019

Probably one for Pinner...

I was chatting with a friend over the weekend about Man City's 9-0 win over Burton. Jesus scored in the first half (3rd goal) where, in my opinion, he was about 8 yards offside. The ball was chipped over the defence to Gundogan who squared it first time to Jesus who then scored. Gundogan wasn't offside and neither was Jesus when Gundogan passed to him but I can't see how Jesus hasn't gained an advantage from being in an offside position when the initial chip was played.
As far as I know there isn't a 2nd phase of play law, and even if there was then I can't see how one pass later can be a 2nd phase. Is it part of laws that the ball has to go directly to the player for them to be offside?

Can anyone explain or has the offside law been so tinkered with that nothing is clear any more?

Last Minute Freekick
at 23:34 19 Sep 2015

For those who went today, what are your thoughts on our last minute free kick.

I understand that a draw is a good result and we didn't want to concede a breakaway goal but I was a little disappointed that we didn't try and put in the box or even have a long range shot. We could have put a couple of people in the box at least. Instead we just went for the corner.

What would you have done?

Pre-Season!!
at 16:01 29 May 2015

Having read all your ramblings on here for best part of a decade I have often thought when would be the best time to join LFW. Join in a promotion year and you look like a glory supporter. Join in a relegation year and you just come on to moan. Anyway, I've decided to join with an ITK .

I had a look at the official site and saw our pre-season fixtures. I had a look on here to see what you all thought and could see no mention. Looks like someone HQ made a mistake because it has all disappeared again from the offy.

I saw:

Shakhtar Donetsk (Italy)
Monaco (Italy)
Some Saudi team (Italy)
Dundee (Barnet)
Newport (Newport)
Chievo (W12)

I can't tell you more than that as I only had a quick look before it vanished.

If this is a Spackman I promise never to post again.

Mature Cheddar BTW

Haha - all just appeared again now!
