None of our forwards have particularly good movement, so you need to find other ways to create openings. With Burrell and Lloyd that means giving them early ball so they can stretch their legs, if you delay it gives the defending team time to retreat and drown them out. We had too much sideways passing from the midfield last night, we needed to move it forwards quicker - I'm absolutely not talking about humping long balls downfield - but playing those guys in before Charlton got back into their low block. Once they'd retreated we lacked both the movement to break them open and the physicality to win headers. I have a feeling that's what Stephan is getting at when he talks about us being braver with the ball.
That all said, we've had a good start to the season, which we absolutely needed, so we shouldn't complaint too much. |

I actually thought JS's biggest mistakes were the subs, not the starting line up (which I can broadly accept because of the fitness situation). We were on the back foot from kick off, largely because Poku and Vale refused to mark anyone on our right hand sand, so when Chair went down I'd have pushed Vale into the 10 role and brought on Varane to stiffen the spine. And in the second half they were unsettled by our pace up front so I'd have thrown Lloyd up there alongside Burrell instead of bringing on 2 CMs who slowed the game down with sideways passes.
I also thought their manager did a really good job of adjusting to us in the second half - took off a couple of attackers and moved to a back 5 to negate Burrell's pace by surrounding him with defenders. He ended up isolated and outnumbered. Boro also killed the game very well towards the end, frustrating for us but very professional. |

The club has spent the last couple of years attempting to make a big thing of QPR being an authentic football experience - authentic stadium, authentic fans, authentic club - and then they do something like this. Are they that desperate to create social media clips? Ooh look, we have an anthem too! It's the antithesis of authentic.
Huge mistake by the club and they really need to come out and make a statement about it, accepting their responsibility and taking the heat off the guys involved. [Post edited 4 Sep 15:05]

29 years old, horrific injury record, 3rd choice CB? I'd sell him all day long. Dunne, Edwards, Morrison, Mbengue see you through the season - and if you can't find a youngster to fill in for 1 or 2 games if you have 3 injured CBs then that doesn't say much about the DS. |

If Arday was white he wouldn't have got within a million miles of Cambridge. Nor any of the other appointments he had - just take a minute to read his Wiki entry and see the enormous number of appointments he'd been given by the likes of the Royal Society. Even if he hadn't plagiarised his PhD (and he obviously did, 100 identical passages including the same spelling mistakes is not an accident) his educational background would not have given him sniff of a job at Cambridge. They saw a black man with an unbelievable story and they ran with it, not just Cambridge but everyone. It made them feel good about themselves.
And the truth is that, in great British fashion, by the time people started to scrutinise his work Arday had already climbed so high that the institutions and people that had fawned over him couldn't bear to admit that he was a fraud.
As to the person who raised the alarm most recently, Cofnas, his motives are a side issue. You're just playing the man not the ball.
Various people have been found to be plagiarists, some have lost their jobs others haven't. Stories come and go, usually with a small article in the broadsheets because ultimately it's a niche issue for the general population. What made this story blow up was the absolutely fantastical backstory, one that changed on a daily basis. And you'd better believe that if even the Guardian are printing stories doubting what Arday said (as they did last week) then you know it's not a right wing witch hunt.
You're right to describe it as a truly dreadful business though, and awful for him and his family, but it's also a story that speaks volumes about modern Britain. |

Unusual to see only 2 goals and both of them coming from mistakes (ours started with Mbengue giving the ball away carelessly, again, and then Charles dropping it). The less said about the penalties the better.
I thought we played lots of very pretty triangles in the first half when Millwall were happy to sit very deep and let us have the ball in non-threatening areas. Madsen, Vale, Chair, Edwards, Dunne, Charles - that was a nice looking central 6 who kept the ball well, moved into space to receive, played with their heads up. It was nice. But posed no real threat.
Second half, Millwall pushed up 10 yards and we lost the space to move in that part of the field. We actually created a few half chances by playing a little more direct, not long ball but a bit more incisive. Burrell moved a bit more central, then Lloyd replaced Kone, and we had Smyth on the left, and we looked to set them off with their pace. Still only half chances mind.
Overall, I'm still not entirely sure what we've got here. There was some nice football on occasion, Clive is right to say we need to move the ball just that touch quicker and some players obviously have more to come. But I worry about that midfield when games are going against us and we need some guts in there. And I still look at Kone/Burrell and think they need to play alongside one another - they both have what the other lacks - but that leaves us short elsewhere.
Hmm. Intrigued to see where we are after the Cardiff game. |

I noticed the club are auctioning off the pennant given to us by Weiner Neustadt before the recent pre-season friendly. Is it me or does that feel a little bit off? It's one thing to flog signed shirts and photos etc but that pennant represents a game we played, albeit only a pre-season one, but still a game we played. I'd have thought we'd keep stuff like that even if it's just in a box somewhere. I'm sure the £100 they get for it will be really useful to a club that loses £500,000 a week. IDK, maybe I'm just old fashioned. |

Tuck and Esquerdinha were the best players in that cohort (putting Morgan aside because he was basically a first teamer). One is gone and the other almost certainly on his way. The jump is huge.
*Sutton has potential, is very good with the ball at his feet, but goes missing when he doesn't have possession. |

Neither of those lads are anywhere near ready for Championship football. It would be a mistake not to send them out of loan - and proof that we'd learned nothing from mishandling the development of Joe Walsh and the inflated view of Esquerdinha. |

I was going to post something like this. As the the number of right backs available decreased and we still saw no sign whatsoever of TAA it became more and more obvious that Tuchel saw him as an obstacle to team cohesion. Don't forget, Bellingham really had to fight his way back into the squad.
Echo what has been said about the Mexico game. It had everything and if you can't enjoy that then football (in fact sport as a whole) probably isn't for you. Great performance from England, and a very adaptable one at that.
Not sure about Norway on Saturday tbh. Our best performances have been against teams that want to play more open football, whereas we tend to struggle against those that rely on organisation and efficiency. Plus they've got the orc up front. It's going to be a really tough game - which as a World Cup 1/4 final it should be. |

There was a pre-match interview with Sam Field early last season where he made a joke about hoping to be fit to last 60 minutes. I knew then it was just a matter of time.
They need to make a couple of really good signings for central midfield or else it'll be a difficult season. |
