Talking Sense
at 09:17 10 Aug 2018

A breath of fresh air from Hoos confirming that QPR rejected a number of offers for a number
of players which did not meet our valuations and indicating that we would be taking advantage of a changed loan marketing to bring enhance the squad by the end of August.

A man with a clear strategy. I hope the buying team have the tactical nous to put the loan deals to bed in good time.

It's only a glimmer but the 18 mins that Eze was on the pitch before he tripped over his laces or summat was a revelation he was all over the pitch, hardly hardly put a foot wrong and was the go to player in hoops. A good signing.

THE EFFECTS OF GOOD MANAGEMENT
at 09:48 14 Mar 2016

are possibly beginning to show even if there is still some lingering inconsistency in results.

Whats indisputable (or maybe on LFW they are) is the overall improvement in team performance and the overall improvement in almost all individual player performances.

Are there any players who are not now putting in a full shift for the whole time they are on the field? No.

Who has improved almost beyond recognition -Hoilett, Perch, Henry, Chery and Polter IMO. All players have improved to some degree. We haven't seen enough of Washington to form a judgement and I am a tad disappointed in Phillips but he has produced the goods in terms of goals and assists. These things are down to team management and coaching.

Would it be fair to say that Fernandes finally 'got it' in terms of putting a senior team together at director level who in turn have appointed a top twenty manager AND HIS TEAM on the way up, as opposed to a Arry boy patch it up looking for an easy finale to football management.

Discuss.

we could move up four places and be within four places and only 8 points of the playoffs
if we beat Wolves on Sato and with 54 points still to play for.

Not being unduly optimistic, its just the facts.

Last Saturday afternoon at Barnet FC
at 12:31 11 Jan 2016

Championship2 against Bristol Rovers in the pouring rain was very enjoyable.

Of course I did not get wet sitting in a newly constructed stand with proppa seats
of reasonable size that did not attempt to cut me off at the knees which I accessed from
the car park less than 100 metres away (£5).

Both teams worked hard and not without some skill to make for an enjoyable match
and without having to put up with foul language around me although there were the usual chants from the away end.

Supporter supported and encouraged players something which is almost devoid at Rangers at the moment and has been for quite a while.

I am reviewing my options..........

However hard they may try, however much quality we may have, whoever we may be missing through injury, the fact is that 4 points from the last 18 possible is relegation form.

We had dead cat bounce.

We are giving him time, I hope and we should, but I am confused by his lineups and what was the point of bring on Luongo in the 85th minute just to mention one thing.

The Messiah he is not.

Bridge of Spies/Dr Strangelove
at 16:28 9 Dec 2015

For those of a certain age the name Gary Powers will provoke cold war memories. He was shot down whilst flying at 70,000 feet over Russia in May 1960 whilst on a recce.
At the time I was 22 and for a while thought this may be the end of the world. The new Bridge of Spies film is a very good factudrama of the events. Saw it yesterday.

Today I watched a DVD of Dr Strangelove, or how I learned to stop worrying and Love the bomb. Trific film with Peter Sellars in multiple roles as upper class RAF twit, US president and mad scientist. Played for laughs and a great send up of American typecasts. Creepy fiction based around facts.

What are Mr Camerons compelling reasons for needing a mandate to bomb Syria?

He said some days ago live on camera that USA, France and Russia were all bombing and that we really should be doing our bit. We all know that our bit is actually not a lot and may come to 2/3% of the total if/when we do join the bombfest. We are not needed.

So Camerons flaky excuse, sorry, compelling reason is that they are doing it, therefore so should we. In the circumstances Corbyn is right to raise questions about justification.

Hopefully Corbyn, the conservatives not very secret weapon, will maintain his position as labour leader and the main reason for voting conservative. What a pity it will be if at his labour meetings on Monday he decides to fall on his sword. A man of his honour, boxing way above his weight, should surely do just that.

I'm very pro Cameron and the conservatives generally but I reckon they are being a bit gung ho in this instance.

Have watched the first two programmes on Monday nights and 8 more due.

Well hard. Makes the Paras and Marines processes seem like a (relative) doddle.
I did the P course many moons ago but never came across the elimination process just to get the numbers down that the SAS adopt that basically physically thrashes until the have eliminated down to the number they wish to take forward.

Budding hardcases should have a look at the first two episodes etc.

Did we get something for nothing?
at 09:58 27 Oct 2015

Slowly but surely the team is coming together even when the form of some players is spluttering (Phillips, goal aside, for example). We are mid table and poised to move up (am I tempting fate on Friday?).

However the most significant thing for me was the injury to Charles Austin. His value is counting down to at about a million a month and even if we can sell in the January window its going to be for £5m or less methinks.

On the other hand we acquired JET for nowt. In my view he is playing better than Charlie had done prior to his injury. He won so many headers and directed then onwards against an admittedly weakfish MKDons it was repetitious. His value is going up and may well be more than £5m by xmas. By the end of the season he could be worth £10m and Charlie worth nowt (assuming he is still with us at that time).

Maybe a bit pie in the sky, but it is possible, innit?

I am chuffed that we got the three points at Wolves and and I'll take a win against Rotherham hwever scrappy it may be, or otherwise.

but

The only difference between the teams was essentially the goalkeeping. They could have easily been three four ahead before we scored. Green had a generally very good game but the Wolves keeper had a mare and should have easily saved Phillips first and his second.

So lets hold fire on the plaudits for our' improved display' whilst accepting the points.

Sorry.

Greek bailout
at 18:47 20 Jul 2015

for the downtrodden......

It is a slow day in a little Greek Village. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted.

Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the village, stops at the local hotel and lays a €100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the €100 note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the €100 note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer takes the €100 note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the €100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the taverna.

The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit.

The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the €100 note.

The hotel proprietor then places the €100 note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the €100 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.

No one produced anything.

No one earned anything.

However, the whole village is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that is how the bailout package works!

Post election, where do we go from here thread
at 09:55 8 May 2015

I am sure the macaroon will enjoy his day but looking forward he may well sometimes find it more difficult to govern than it was in a coalition were approvals had to be secured from the libdems before going forward but once negotiated could be activated. His own party extremists may well be more tenacious than the libdems.

On the Scottish question he has to ensure at least for the near future that we remain a union. Best way may well be to give the SNP enough rope to knacker themselves. Let them gradually raise their own taxes whist at the same time removing the northward cashflow from Westmeinster and lets see if they really can stand on their own feet. I sort of doubt it.

He's got 2 years to negotiate a better deal with Europe before his relentlessly promised referendum. At the moment UKIP have more than three million votes but only one seat. A referendum counts a bit different..........

Boundary changes need to be made to properly reflect population and that should not be too difficult with a proppa majority.

Needs to knock into the long grass some of the Libdem/Green parties, green and semi green hugely expensive nonsenses.

He needs to reinvigorate efforts to shackle the unfettered immigration issue way before any referendum any put in place an Australian type model. That is to say welcome from any country whatsoever providing we need a particular skill and subject they accept our laws and history and work before taking handouts.

Housebuilding needs to fired up as clearly their are not enough to go round and much of the housing stock is old and needs knocking down anyway.

etc etc etc

Joey Barton, Saviour of QPR?
at 10:42 15 Mar 2015

I do not like this despicable specimen of humanoid.

A Hollywood pass master he is not.

Taking corners he should not.

Taking free kicks, he should not.

One thing he is good at is getting the team moving with energy and drive and frankly those two things were so badly missing against C Palace.

When he was Redcarded at Hull I never wanted to see him again in Hoops but whilst we pay him the sort of money a week that most spectators would aspire to earn in a year we should be pragmatic.

I hope he comes back into the team next weekend fully energised but with his brain engaged. I know that is asking a lot but risks now have to be taken as we are in the swamp up to our armpits and desperate measures are needed.
