Holness came to the club in the Autumn of 2007 after the defence
got hit by the biggest injury crisis in the club's history. He
arrived on loan from Oldham Athletic, cutting short a loan deal
at Ossett Town to join up with Keith Hill's men. Whilst still
only young, and certainly one for the future, he's certainly not
one needing to grow up in any way, and he was an imposing figure
on the pitch during his appearances last season.
He impressed enough during his loan spell for Keith Hill to
make his move from Oldham a permanent one, even though the
majority of the injured defenders were back fully fit.
He caused a bit of controversy when he remembered at the last
minute that he'd already played in the FA Cup during the 2007-8
season on the day of our first round game away at Southend. Yes,
it still counts as the FA Cup if you're playing for Ossett Town.
There are high hopes for Holness, and with the likes of
Stanton to bring him through, the future looks good defensively
for Dale with D'Laryea and McArdle all competing for that
central defensive spot.
