Record breaking LFW Betting Preview — QPR v Coventry
Record breaking LFW Betting Preview — QPR v Coventry
Friday, 21st Jan 2011 21:52 by LFW Pundits

The boys are back, and they’re pleased as punch after a £500 haul between them last week – a LFW record win.

What an exceptional week it was last time out for our intrepid betting pundits. Brian secured the column’s biggest ever win with a £339.45 Yankee bet on the succession of Premiership draws on the Sunday, and actually made £403.20 – considering his original e-mail didn’t contain any copy and I only received the revised version by chance checking my account at 7am before heading for Burnley it was a lucky day all round. Andy enjoyed a three figure win of his own to come out of the red for the first time in a few weeks. Congratulations to the boys, and anybody who followed their tips last week – the win has clearly enthused them, and a lengthy column including scouting reports from the MK Dons youth team follows. The running totals are Brian £591.93 and Andy £52.39.

On many a week if this column was a horse it would be carted off to Blackpool Beach to carry ungrateful overweight brats up and down the seafront for £2.50 a ride. However if last weekend’s column was a horse it would be put out to stud as it was one hell of a weekend. Two winners in our horse lucky 15, a 14/1 ew horse tip, two correct scores in our Sunday lucky 15 and all 4 up on our Yankee (paying £339.45) meant a total return of £403.20.

A home game against the team at the bottom of the form table should mean a win but this is QPR and with the Sky cameras in attendance you never know. With all different rumours flying around about players joining who knows what the team will be but we should win and I will go for a 3-1 win and I will stick with Gorkks for the first goal.

Elsewhere the game of the day in the Championship is Cardiff v Watford. I think the Hornets will get a draw in Wales and this is the first selection in a Yankee of draws.

My old favourite football bet of trebles and an acca will come back into play. Sunderland travel to Blackpool without Darren Bent and I think the home side can beat the Black Cats and Notts County who have improved under Paul Ince (still a git) and at a shade of odds on are good value against Carlisle. MK Dons can beat Dagenham and Gillingham to beat Torquay make up the four choices. Gillingham are the strange ones who went for ages without an away win but have won five out of six and are the form team in the division and should see off a hit and miss Torquay team.. MK Dons despite having Rowan Vine in their ranks travel to Dagenham who are struggling. MK Dons have a young player called Daniel Powell in their ranks who has scored a couple in recent weeks and has been getting some decent reviews and is worth keeping an eye on. In fact we will have a couple of quid on him scoring first.

In the horse racing this weekend we will get plenty of Cheltenham pointers where Masterminded headlines at Ascot and over at Haydock Peddlers Cross runs in the Champion Hurdle trial and Punchestown also goes they will be short odds and I can’t back them here for this reason but they should all win. On Sunday Hurricane Fly goes up against Solwhit in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown. Hurricane Fly and Peddlers Cross will be laying their claims for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March where Binocular after last week’s performance at Kempton is favourite but we should learn more about their credentials this weekend.

In the Peter Marsh Chase Nigel Twiston-Davies’s Major Malarkey is currently 12/1 and is a good each way bet. Over in Ireland Willie Mullins horse Ballytrim goes in the Thyestes Chase and at 20/1 is also worth an each way bet. I will double these up.

£5 QPR to beat Coventry 3-1 14/1

£5 Kaspars Gorkss to score first 25/1

Well, weeks like that are pretty much the reason why Brian and I do this betting malarkey on a regular basis. Both our biggest weeks ever on the column, with Brian getting over £300 from his Yankee, and I picked up over £100 from my three fold, and backing the draw against Burnley. As it turns out, I actually had the four-fold elsewhere, which meant that my “real life” winnings were actually closer to the £700 mark, but I’m happy to have picked up the £100 on this colum.Ssadly, these ‘perfect’ storms only happen once a season, but it does mean that I’ve pretty much paid for next year’s season ticket off a £15 bet.

So this week we’re at home against Coventry, live on Sky. I honestly can’t see anything other than a home win for this one, regardless of whether Ledesma, Shittu, Miller, Woodgate, Townsend, Routledge, McCarthy, Keane or Messi signs in time for the match. I’m going back to my old favourite, a win at home to nil, available at 2.72 or 7/4 on Betfair. Adel Taarabt also looks pretty overpriced to score anytime with Bet365, so I’m sticking a fiver on him at 8/5.

Finally, Betfred are offering a promotion where if Taarabt scores the last goal of the match, they will refund all losing bets on first and last goal scorer, as well as all losing correct score and scorecast results. Obviously the chances of Taarabt making it to 90 minutes are slim to none, but he does have a habit of scoring in around the seventieth minute before being subbed. I’m going to stick £2.50 each on QPR 2-0 and 3-0, available at 6/1 and 9/1 respectively with Betfred, and hope that Taarabt scores last.

Elsewhere, the standout game, for us at least, is the Cardiff vs. Watford game. Watford are available at 3/1, which seems ridiculously overpriced considering the form that Watford are in at the moment. One thing this game does promise however is goals – so if you can find an offer of evens or better for over 2.5 goals in this game I suggest you take it.

Finally, onto this week’s multiple. I was tempted to follow Brian’s lead and do a Yankee or a Lucky 15, but to be honest I struggled to find four games with semi-decent odds to put together for a multiple, so I’d get hardly more than about evens for a £10 bet. In the end I opted for a straight 5 fold, with Rangers, Celtic, Man U, Middlesbrough and Borussia Dortmund to all win - £10 there is worth £70 return - and I only lumped Dortmund in there at the last minute to double the return!

For the weekend:

QPR vs. Coventry - QPR win to nil £10 @ 7/4 (Betfair)

QPR vs. Coventry - QPR to win 2-0 £5 @ 6/1 (Betfred)

QPR vs. Coventry - QPR to win 3-0 £5 @ 9/1 (Betfred)

QPR vs. Coventry - Taarabt to score anytime - £5 @ 8/5 (Bet365)

Fivefold multiple - Rangers, Celtic, Man U, Middlesbrough and Borussia Dortmund to win - £10 @ 7/1 (Betfair)
