Wickham Wins Awards Sunday, 20th Mar 2011 21:39 by TWTD.co.uk Town striker Connor Wickham was named the Young Player of the Year and Championship Apprentice of the Year at tonight’s Football League Awards in London. Speaking last week, boss Paul Jewell said Wickham, who turns 18 on the final day of the month, is having no trouble handling all the plaudits and awards he is receiving: “He’ll probably get a BAFTA as well! “He’s in for that many awards that I lose track - Young Player of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Chef of the Year, everything. It’s a lot for him to take on but I think he takes it in his stride and he’s a very level-headed lad.” Wickham will be with the England U21 squad this week for their friendlies against Denmark and Iceland. QPR’s Adel Taraabt won the Championship Player of the Year award with Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith being given the League One gong and Bury’s Ryan Lowe winning in League Two. Crewe boss Dario Gradi received a Contribution to League Football Award for his 28 years with the Railwaymen.
