Who Do Saints Fans Back In The League One Play Off Final ?

A look at who the Red & White Army will be rooting for at Old Trafford.

The one thing that Saints fans are glad for is that they wont be supporting Nigel Adkins men at Old Trafford, the play offs have always been regarded as a lottery and there are many who still remember the heartbreak of the Deby County penalty shootout clearly.

This years League One play off's though has so far gone to form, Huddersfield are unbeaten in the League since their 4-1 drubbing at St Mary's on December 28th and although they faltered a little against Bournemouth, drawing both games and needing penalties with some saying they were foruitous to not be beaten in either game, overall they were the third best side in the division by a country mile and some would say that like Saints, in the second half of the season they were better than Brighton.

Peterborough were fourth and again miles ahead of MK Dons and were admired for their attacking prowess although their defensive frailties were just as well known.

Their games against the Dons were a hard one to call for Saints fans in that most would detest Darren Ferguson who is clearly an odious character yet on the other hand MK Dons are Franchise FC who only exist due to the appalling way the former Wimbledon were allowed to be dismantled by the FA.

So who would Saints fans want to be promoted alongside them ? well their are reasons for and against for both teams. against Peterborough would of course be the aforementioned Ferguson, not to mention the fact that we covet a couple of their players who if they fail to get promoted we might well have a chance of landing, on the other hand they are a well run club with a nice set of fans and its a good trip to go to, unlike Huddersfield.

For the Yorkshire club is that they thouroughly deserve to go up, we have no real grief with their supporters and having been close last year and had such a great run it would be tough on them if they failed to go up, against them is the fact that Huddersfield would be the better equipped of the two in the Championship, its a long haul up to the Galpharm and in our last two visits they have comprehensively destroyed us, in short it would be a lot harder to get six points of them next season than it would be from the Posh.

All things being equal though I think Saints supporters would prefer to see the Yorkshire club win through, they deserve it on all levels not least the unbeaten run that they must now maintain in their most important game of the season, they are truly a football club with good support whereas Peterborough even with their recent success's cant muster much more than 6,000 home supporters for any given game and of course there is Darren Ferguson.

So come on Huddersfield you deserve your place in the Champioship next season !

Yep Huddersfield for me. Any other result would be a travesty and possibly keep CMS out of our clutches ;+)
