McKeown Signs for Kilmarnock Friday, 15th Jul 2011 07:59 by TWTD.co.uk Kilmarnock have confirmed the signing of released Town defender Rory McKeown on a one-year deal. TWTD first reported Killie’s interest in the Northern Ireland U19 international in May. The SPL side’s boss Kenny Shiels said: “Rory is a great young player, he fits in with the way we play and is up for the fight. I am looking to build players for the future as well as for now.” McKeown was one of only two second-year academy scholars released this summer. The other, fellow defender Josh Meekings, has also moved to Scotland, having signed a two-year contract with Terry Butcher’s Inverness Caledonian Thistle. However, the Bury-born youngster’s season hasn’t got off to the best of starts, an ankle ligament injury ruling him out for six to eight weeks. Elsewhere, former Blue Owen Garvan has decided against joining Brighton in a £250,000 move. The Irishman wants to stay at Crystal Palace to fight for his place.
