A Big Night In The Championship
A Big Night In The Championship
Tuesday, 27th Sep 2011 10:12

Saints fans need to keep their fingers crossed tonight as our rivals look to steal a march on us.

Saints have to sit and watch tonight as most of the Championship play this weeks round of midewwek fixtures a day earlier, with only Cardiff V Saints and Middlesbrough V Leicester taking place on the Wednesday.

Brighton who are hosting their big rivals Palace will look to leapfrog Saints with a win as will Derby who play Barnsley at Pride Park and West Ham who entertain Ipswich, its hard to see anything other than a home win in those fixtures and if thats the case then Saints will drop to fourth at least until Wednesday night.

But it could get worse if Saints fail to win at the Cardiff City Stadium and Boro beat Middlesbrough, that combination would push us down a place further into fifth, so its imperative that we get at least a point at Cardiff, if we did that then it should be enough to push us up a place or two assuming that our rivals did manage that win.

The games come thick and fast over the next 4 weeks, in that period we have six games starting with the trip to Wales and ending with the visit of Middlesbrough, by the end of that game our true standing in this league should be a lot clearer.

Nick totally agree we have some hugely testing fixtures coming up. Personally I'd be happy with a point on the road at Cardiff, although a win would be a massive bonus. Cardiff looked like they were hit hard with injuries at the weekend so not sure how strong they will be.

On a positive note I can honestly say I haven't seen any opposition this season that were better than us. Leicester had us on the back foot for a large part of the first half of that fixture, but in truth we were unlucky to come away with nothing. Other teams have threatened, but have they been a better side? No. I'm looking forward to seeing how we fair against Derby, Boro and West Ham.

Pity the season aint over in the next 4 weeks Nick. It seems if we arnt in the top six after it were dead and buried. God knows what your comments will be should we loose a couple in that time. Get on the bus....Saints onwards and upwards.
