Saints Linked With Ivory Coast Winger
Saints Linked With Ivory Coast Winger
Tuesday, 4th Dec 2012 14:37

Saints are being linked with Abdul Kader Keita who is being quoted as saying that his agent is lining up a deal with a Premier League Club.

The 31 year old winger has recently departed from his Quatari club Al Saad and is a free agent, in truth the player had not had that great a career until four seasons in France with firstly Lille &  then a 18 million euro move to Lyon in 2007saw his profile increase earning him a move to Galatasaray for 2009/10 season.

After one season in Turkey where he played 27 games scoring 5 goals he returned to former club Al Saad for 8.5 million euros in 2010 although his second season doesnt appear to be too much of a success and he spent some of it out on loan.

Now a free agent he is looking to play in the premier League despite offers from French clubs but Keita who can also play as a striker as well as on the wing would prefer England.

However saints are alledgedly not alone in their persuit of the man from the Ivory Coast who has played over 70 games for his country with Sunderland, QPR and West Brom all linked with a move for him, as the player is out of contract it could be that if Saints sign him he could be available immediately, although at time of wrinting this was unclear.

It’s not Southampton’s style to sign an ageing player who’s past his best. He sounds like a bit of a mercenary anyway if he’s had two stints in Qatar. Players only go there for the money. So he’s probably best suited to QPR!!

short term fix could be worth it, I think saints transfer committee have realised that they have to buy a bit of experience in and cant make do with kids and league 1 standard players

But we have decent attackers here at the moment who can't get a start (JRod, Mayuka, Lee). I thought the priorty would be an experienced centre back, and or goalkeeper.

As Ben Kingsley said in Sexy Beast:NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!!!
We need defenders and goaltending, not a neverwas, just read the article: Lyon was stupid enough to blow 18 million euro on him and ever since teams have been selling him at a loss to whatever team they can find more stupid than they are. Our crack transfer committee (whoever that is-NC?) Should have realised even last season when we were letting in soft goals, we needed defence and what have we got so far?

Why are we obsessed with adding to our stock of wingers who never seem to make the grade to be regular first teamers (in the search for someone who is both fast and accurate and also able to defend?) when our priorities should be elsewhere on the field.
Who the **** is responsible for transfers, whoever he is he's making a right ***** of it, and this would be another one for sure. Let's hope it is just another piece of newspaper nonsense.

Before we lay into anyone we don't even know if there is any real truth in this. Personally I can't see us going for another attacking player. There will be big pressure to bring in an experienced keeper (if we continue to leave out Kelvin and Boruc) and a decent experienced centre back to challenge for a first team place. We may even go for a 'midfield general' with some experience and maybe add a bit of nastiness to our otherwise soft side.

As others have stated it's not our style to sign final pay day players. QPR and West Ham are just down the road. Let them go for him.
