New Owners.....But Some Things Never Change

Home >Story Index> Things Just Are Not Good At The Moment

I read with interest the article that Phil Sumbler wrote on here last Thursday where he criticised the decision to remove Nick Cusack from his managerial duties. I liked Nick but at the end of it, the club hit rock bottom and the directors felt that a change needed to be made. However, what worries me is these directors and the way that they are running OUR football club. This morning I read with interest their statement on the official site and some things made me laugh and some things concerned me. Let's take a look at what: -
1. The fact that this statement was made on Saturday. The changes took place on Thursday. What does that tell you? What I guess is that the statement was written by one, passed round the others and then to that PR bloke that everyone loves to issue. But of course, by the time it rotated so far round and got changed, 48 hours had passed. Pathetic.
2. I quote: "We feel strongly that Brian Flynn is the right man" Then why the f k didn't you appoint him when you last had the chance. They also go on to claim that these things were done at a cost (obviously) and that this cost has been met. (No more 5p's in the £ then!) Who met that cost? Is this the man whose name is the worst kept secret in football (ssssshhhhhh!) If we have money for sackings why can we not afford for the team to stay overnight at Wrexham instead of departing Swansea at 7am?
3. They think that these appointments will put bums back on seats. Well done, we gained 500 more against Torquay and lost so there goes those 500 people then.
I am tending to agree with Phil at the moment. These people have the right intentions at heart. They are fans after all. Like you and me. But being a fan does not give you the right to run a football club nor the ability to do so. Not one of them is prepared to stand up and act like a spokesman in any of this and it makes you wonder if they have to consult each other before one of them takes a dump!!!
But let's not forget, we're OK, we have a trust member on the board. At this point I refer to another statement, one made by the Supporters Trust last Thursday. One that I hasten to add I only saw on scfc.co.uk and nowehere else but at least a few hundred internet fans know what is going on and sod the people with no net access. The statement reads (just a few exerts) "In order to avoid any doubt, the Trust Board, wishes to make its members and fans aware that it has been kept fully informed by Leigh Dineen, it's Supporter Director at all times as to the nature of any discussions that have taken place." That's good then. What the hell does that mean. A few numptys know what is going on but the average Joe Public member doesn't. From memory the trust board was formed by 12 people from the 12 people that stood (or something very similar) I have seen some of these and I wouldn't trust them to vote on my behalf on Pop Idol let alone who should manage Swansea City. And what happens. Leigh comes in and says "We are doing this" and the puppies all say "Yes Leigh" Surely if we are all stakeholders then the trust acts on behalf of ALL their members and not on behalf of a few people who I'm sorry don't really know what they are doing. But I digress.....
The statement also says "Whilst any announcement concerning changes of personnel will be made as appropriate by the Club, the Trust Board as always, is committed to keeping its members advised of developments and will do so via the usual channels." Well I'm sorry I misunderstood it. I thought the trust gave us a voice but it looks as if they are just there to dictate to the members once decisions have been made. Well on that basis you can stick your supporters trust.
And finally while I am on a rant. The directors box. You look at the directors box and you see some interesting faces some weeks. That Penney solicitor bloke. Why is he always there? He did a job, he got paid for it, are we now just letting him have a free seat every week. Nigel Hamer has been seen there on a few occasions. And even Leigh Dineen annoys me especially when he was in the paper buying his season ticket the other week - what did he do with that one? I know of one investor in the club who turned down a free seat in the directors box. I thought the days of freebies were gone? New owners, same old shit?
I'm sorry to be so negative but I feel that this needs saying and I notice that Phil's invite for answers from the board was met with a deafening silence. Clearly means that he was right and they can only speak after much discussion. Shame really.
To the trust and the owners, pull yourselves together or you'll blow it big time and don't blame the rest for your own failings.
