The Departure Of Keaveny

Home >Story Index> The Departure Of Keaveny

But the situation at Swansea is a lot different we haven't the time nor the money to keep players who are not going to be in the managers plans and more importantly players who aren't going to perform good enough. After reading the Evening Post today, I also read the following speech from Jonathan Keaveny, "I've had a few calls from League of Wales clubs and from one or two football league clubs so we'll see what happens". I agree with the first part of the speech because he is a skillful lad and has a lot of pace, so I think he would be able to withstand the League of Wales, you never know he might end up playing with another ex-swans Jason Jones currently at Llanelli (bottom of the LoW), wouldn't that be coincidence. The second half of that little speech, saying that he has had a couple of calls from football league clubs, no dis-respect to the youngster but I don't think he has the ability to succeed at that level, but you never know I might be sitting here in a few years time, regretting that remark, but that's my opinion. During the pre-season a friend of mine who is playing for the Swans under 16's played along side Jonathan during a game against Garden Village under 18's, when I met up with him after, I had a good chat about the game and the senior players who played in the game, he told me that Keaveny didn't look too good during that game and said that all he had was pace, somehow during that game Dave Moss forged himself into the game as an 18 year old (how he did I will never know!). To finish off the column I will use the quote that Jonathan used to end his interview with Evening Post, "I didn't really get a chance and I feel that maybe I deserved more of an opportunity than I got," I think that Flynn could've waited on his decision to release all three players, and maybe given Keaveny a few more games to try and make a name for himself but its the way it goes, the only good thing about this is Jonathan is young and has years of football left in him! GOOD LUCK!
