Club Deny Any Bid For Jamie Rewbury

Home > Story Index >Club Deny Rewbury Offer

Initial reports suggested that Brian Flynn had insisted that Jamie Rewbury must stay at the Vetch despite the offer, alleged to be from Portsmouth. Rewbury signed scholarship terms at the Vetch this summer despite then having offers from Premiership clubs.
However, with people arguing whether we should have accepted the offer or not, we have spoken to the club and they have stated that no firm bid has been made. "A few clubs have asked if they can take some youth players on a week's trial but this is nothing unusual. We have certainly had no firm offers from Portsmouth or anyone else for Jamie Rewbury - it is again a case of chinese whispers when a story is getting changed all the time before hitting the public eye"
The story in the paper has created much discussion around whether we should have accepted the offer (had indeed there been one) and we posed the same question to the club spokesman who said "If we did receive an offer of that magnitude for any player then yes we would consider it. Of course, whether we accepted would depend on who the player was and whether the other clauses in the offer were acceptable to Swansea City. By this we of course refer to sell on clauses, appearance money and the like. The club is in need of income but at the same time we are not going to let players go for less than their market value because of this."
Meanwhile, Jamie Rewbury made a substitute appearance this afternoon as the Swans went down 1-0 to Aston Villa reserves thanks to a late goal (Official site report can be found by clicking here)
So it appears that yet again this is a case of never believe anything you read in the papers. It may have generated discussion but it does appear that the club have never received this offer and whilst it may be true that seemingly Premiership-bound Portsmouth are interested in the youngster there has been no contact with the club to offer a sum of money to secure his services.
Certainly reports from those that have seen Rewbury play tend to suggest that he may well exceed that price tag in the future and only time will tell if the allegedly interested clubs do make a bid for the player.
In the meantime, always take what you read in the newspapers on a Sunday morning with a pinch of salt!
