The Port Talbot Town web-sites are stating that Brian Flynn will be taking his first team to Port Talbot next Friday night for the first in the club's pre-season friendlies.
"The Town Team" web-site is stating that "Brian Flynn brings a full strength Swansea City side to Victoria Road" on the 18th July although nothing has, as yet, been confirmed from Swansea's official site with regards to the fixture.
It is believed that Britton, Martinez and Trundle have all been named in the Swansea squad for the game, which will give the Swans fans present the first chance to take a look at the new look team ahead of the new season. Although Port Talbot will not exactly prepare the Swans for a Division 3 campaign it is a match and match practice is all important when there will be just over three weeks until the new season when the match is played.
Port Talbot themselves will parade their new signings Jason Hislop, Ian Hancock and Craig Hughes (Who?) and is the first of two friendlies against league opposition for the Town, with Cheltenham Town also visiting Victoria Road the week after.
In addition to this, the Swans will also travel to Stebonheath Park on August 4 for a pre-season friendly, the last before the serious business starts. I would expect a much weaker side to be fielded for that game with the new season then just 5 days away but it will be the last chance for Flynn to assess his squad in a match situation before Bury arrive at the Vetch.
You can almost smell the new season around the corner and I think I may just take the short trip to Port Talbot next Friday night. |
