Swans Part Company With Flynn And Reeves

Flynn & Reeves Sacked

Brian Flynn arrived at the Vetch in October 2002 with the club at rock bottom of the football league. Six months earlier the club had passed over his appointment when he insisted on Kevin Reeves coming with him. The appointment at the time was given to Nick Cusack but that didnt work and Flynn and Reeves were installed with the mission to save the Swans' football league existence.

This they achieved with a nail biting win on the last day of the season against Hull and people looked forward to the team being re built. Flynn rebuilt his side in the summer and brought in some players of a high calibre with a clear intention to take the third division by the scruff of the neck. In came the likes of Lee Trundle and Roberto Martinez and in August and September life was great. Flowing football, goals and huge crowds - the likes that the Vetch had not seen for many a year took the Swans to the top of the table and promotion was the word on everyone's lips.

From there it started to go wrong, an FA Cup run to the 5th round (first time in 24 years) masked poor league performances and the play offs became a distant hope. As each game progressed the gap looked wider and wider until we got to this situation where the club decided enough was enough and parted company with its management team.

I cannot believe that this decision has been taken without the successor for Mr Flynn being lined up and we await the wording from the club and the (ex) manager over this decision.

Strong rumours indicate that the long term replacement for Flynn will be ex Tranmere manager John Aldridge.
