Pearson To Depart ?

Is Nigel Pearson about to be replaced ?

Saints new board have a busy week ahead as they start the plans for next season, the last two years have been a catalogue of accusations and claims from all parties that they have the best interests of the Club at heart and the opposition dont, on this site we try not to get caught up in that and deal only with fact and let each individual make up their own mind, on this occasion it has to be said that it served no good purpose for Leon Crouch and his board to hang on to the day before the proposed EGM before resigning, meaning that preparations have been put back 10 days, perhaps at the most crucial stage of the planning, when retained lists have to be drawn up.

Because of the uncertain situation it has meant that with Nigel Pearson being unsure of his own position, he hasnt been able to give any assurances to out of contract players or indeed chase those he is looking to get in on loan etc.

Hopefully this will all be resolved this week, Lowe & Wilde have a meeting scheduled with Pearson and then Saints will be able to move forward.

As regular readers will know, I dont feel that Nigel pearson quite has what it takes to be manager of this club and take it forward, I feel that he has many good qualities but those are that of a number two and not a manager.

However i do accept mine is the minority view and most Saints fans feel he is the man to help Saints progress, I can concur with that feeling to a degree, I do feel that with most things stacked against him last season he came in and did a good job in the circumstances  and in that respect he has perhaps earned the right to get the chance to prove that he does have what it takes to be a manager, however that feeling is tempered with the nagging thought that at this stage the club cannot afford to be sentimental and have to get it right now and not in a years time if Pearson fails, my concerns are over his team selections and substitutions, even as late at the Burnley game they were found wanting and almost dragged us into a position that we couldnt escape from.

In truth i dont expect Nigel Pearson to still be manager of this club by the end of the week , I expect Lowe to want to make a complete change and bring in his own men, I dont expect it to be Hoddle, indeed I have the feeling that it might be something a little bit different.

Ironically if you look back at Lowe's usual requirement for a prospective manager in the past, he has gone for men with reputations to be gained and not lost, young coaches who will embrace new methods etc, I say ironically because in many aspects Nigel Pearson ticks most of the boxes on Lowe's wish list for a manager.

Perhaps the ideal situation would be for Pearson to remain at the Club as head coach, alongside a more experienced man in charge, however it would be highly unlikely that Pearson would be willing to accept this given that he has been in charge here.

So sadly it seems that Lowe's first full week in charge will see him make decisions that will alienate most of the fanbase, however lets not beat about the bush, difficult decisions have to be made and surely its better they are made now that see a repeat of the situation last season that saw George Burley allowed to run the team into the ground, followed by the dithering of the board in replacing him.
