Southend slumped to a shock defeat against Milton Keynes, while Huddersfield are now breathing down the necks of the top two after a convincing win over Rotherham.

Southend's Shaun Goater put theleague leadersahead after 13 minutes, but Gary Smith drew The Dons level three minutes later and former Blackpool striker Scott Taylor registered a surprise winner on 78 minutes.

Huddersfield swept Rotherham aside, beating them by a final score of 4-1. On-loan Sheffield United man Jonathan Forte (13) put The Millers ahead, only for veteran Terriers striker Andy Booth to level after 32 minutes before putting his side ahead seven minutes later. The former Sheffield Wednesday man claimed his hat-trick on 82 minutes before Gary Taylor-Fletcher got in on the act six minutes from the final whistle.

Hartlepool and Barnsley had to settle for a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw. Joel Porter, making just his second start of the season, gave United the lead afternine minutes, but Barnsley responded well with Antony Kay replying nine minutes before the interval.

Colchester United kept their play-off dreams alive with a 1-0 win over Swindon. Chris Iwelumo notched his 17th goal of the season as he put The U's ahead from the penalty spot after 14 minutes.

Bristol City humiliated Gillingham with a 6-0 demolition at Ashton Gate. Stephen Brooker got City off to a fantastic start, giving them the advantage with just 11 minutes goneon the clock, before Louis Carey doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Things went from bad to worse for Gillingham when Leon Johnson was dismissed for a professional foul and Cole Skuse (45) made it 3-0 from the resulting penalty. Carey bagged his second five minutes into the second-half and Luke Wilkshire (67) and Mark McCammon (90) completed the rout.

Chesterfield slumped to another home defeat, losing 2-1 to Scunthorpe United. Colin Larkin grabbed the sixth goal of his Spireites career after 15 minutes, but it all went wrong for Roy McFarland's men in the second-half. Richard Hinds (47) equalised and Andy Crosby put The Iron ahead after 63 minutes.

Blackpool boosted their hopes of survival with a 1-0 win over Port Vale. Gareth Williams scored the only goal of the game, giving The Seasiders a 66th minute advantage.

Oldham still have an eye on the play-offs after a 4-1 drubbing of Bradford City. A rapid-fire double knocked the wind out of The Bantams when Paul Warne (16) put the visitors ahead before Luke Beckett added a second just a minute later.

Former Lincoln man Richard Butcher made it 3-0 after 34 minutes, but Aaron Wilbraham gave the home side some hope five minutes after the break before Beckett made the points safe with eight minutes left to play.

Nottingham Forest continued their impressive form with a 2-1 win at Doncaster Rovers. Kris Commons (25) put Forest ahead and former Rochdale man Grant Holt doubled the advantage two minutes into the second period. James Coppinger then set up a grandstand finish, scoring from the spot after 86 minutes.

Yeovil's relegation worries continue after a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth. The deadlock was broken when Cherries forward Steve Fletcher notched his first goal of the season three minutes after the half-hour mark.
