Martinez Calls For Player Break

Swans boss Roberto Martinez has called on his players to take full advantage of the international break to recharge and refocus.

For the rest of the squad not on international duty the order of the day has been one of recovery after the Liberty Stadium club face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow and with a fast and frenetic pace expected ahead in the last handful of games of the season, the Spaniard hopes his three step plan will bear fruit as he told the SWEP, he said “The international break is going to be split into three sections - passive recovery, active recovery and then preparation before we play again,We have seen each other too much and it will be good for the players to have a little break. We will encourage them to get away.”

Mentally preparing themselves for the challenges posed at the end of the season, Martinez has admitted the players needed a break from football as he now adds”Ideally you want them to take the family away and switch off from football and all the intensity we have had. After that we will have a mini pre-season and then get ready for our last six games, but mentally the players need that break.”

It is not the first time that the South Wales club have utilised long gaps in the fixture list after last seasons mid season break in Spain, that even saw the players and club staff taking in a champions league game at Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium.
