Jason Scotland has completed his move to Wigan Athletic, after he was granted a work permit

The Trinidad & Tobago striker moves for a club record £1.5m with add-ons which could potentially rise to £2m.

Scotland joined the club from St Johnstone two years ago for just £25k, as his contract was due to expire a few months later.

At 30, his chances of Premier League football were dwindling, and with his contract expiring next summer at the Liberty Stadium, it was time for him to be sold.

The former Dundee United frontman still has to be granted international clearance and a visa, but that's merely a formality.

Planet Swans would like to wish Jason the very best for the rest of his career.

Delighted with the capture of Scotland, former Swans boss Roberto Martinez praised the frontman as a 'natural goalscorer' and has no doubts that he can make the step up to the Premiership.

"Jason is a natural goalscorer, I can't really put it any other way. Every manager wants a player who has that clinical ability to make something happen in the box, and Jason can do that," Martinez told the Latics' official site.

"He is strong, very physical, and his feet can produce the magic ingredient every team needs in the box. This was always going to be a key signing for me.

"I have every faith he can make the step up to the Premier League and become a real cult hero at the Latics.

"I know from experience how the Wigan fans love a goalscorer. Graeme Jones, Andy Liddell, Nathan Ellington, Jason Roberts. I am confident Jason can be the next name on that list."
