Britton: We Just Need To Give Forwards Time

Leon Britton believes that the new forwards at the club just need to be given time to start producing the goods

As a variation of attacking options completed an eighth succesive league game without a goal at Oakwell on Saturday, Britton was reflecting on the loss of Jason Scotland but confident that the current crop would come good given the time that they need.

The loss of Scotland and Gomez has never been more evident as the Swans struggle for goals at the moment - a statistic made all the more frustrating by what seems to be improved performances just lacking the rewards of the three points needed.

Speaking after the draw at Barnsley, Britton told the Western Mail “Obviously we’ve lost Jason, so we are missing a striker who was able to get more than 20 goals per season

“But we just need to give the new forwards time to settle into our style of football.

“We have got confidence that the boys up front will score goals. And that’s not just the strikers, it’s the wide men too.

“We just have to get behind them and back them. We all know they have the quality so it’s only a matter of time before the goals start coming.

“It might be a bit unusual for this team not to be scoring. But the main thing is that we created so many chances.

“You start to worry if that isn’t the case, but it has been for the past four or five games.

“It’s only a matter of time before we start converting them.

“It’s another frustrating afternoon,” he said. “We were very pleased with the performance and, if anyone was going to win, it was us.

“But we just couldn’t make the most of our chances.

“It’s difficult to take because we know we are getting the performances but not the results – and that has been the case for a few games now.

“As long as we keep performing like that and maintain our standards, though, we will get results because we played some brilliant football.

“In the long term we will get the benefits. If we keep playing like that our luck will soon turn around.”
