Huw Jenkins says the first target for Brendan Rodgers is to keep the Swans away from relegation

The Swansea City Chairman has no doubt enjoyed the last two seasons where the Swans have flirted with the play off positions and been safe from relegationm relatively early on in the season as a result.

But as he watches the team prepare for a third season with a third manager in charge he puts a touch of persepctive on the first goals set for the new manager.

"Our first target is the same every year and that is to stay in the Championship," the Swansea chairman told the Evening Post.

"Our principles remain the same all the time, and the goal before each season starts is to guarantee we will spend another season at this level.

"We will see how things go over the weeks and months ahead and then maybe we can reassess things.

"But with a new manager coming in, first and foremost we have to keep things stable by staying where we are

"We needed to bring in someone who could bring the club back together," Jenkins added, hinting at the discontent within some quarters during Sousa's reign.

"We wanted someone who would quietly move this club forward, to carry on the good work we have done over the past few years.

"I feel we have that man in Brendan.

"He is young, enthusiastic, confident, a good talker and a good leader.

"As well as all that, his football principles are like ours, which was always a priority.

"I think Brendan would be the first to admit, which he has done, that Reading was the wrong time and place for him," Jenkins said.

"Following in the footsteps of Steve Coppell and trying to be the one who changed things around was always going to be difficult.

"But coming to Swansea, he knows he is carrying something on and he hasn't got to change anything dramatically.''
