Defeat on Friday to Newcastle was the Swans third successive loss - the first time they have recorded that statistic under Brendan Rodgers in the league - coming on the back of a passing display that saw them complete over 800 passes during the game.

However, Newcastle had three chances on target and scored with two of them prompting some corners to start the criticism again that the Swans need to change their style if they are to make real inroads into the Premier League.

“I bet you if we play 900 passes every week then more often than not we are going to win the game,” said Pascoe.

“What we are annoyed about is that people will look at Friday’s game and say you can pass the ball all day long but it’s about putting it in the net.

“But we have not done a bad job so far of passing the ball about and getting goals with it.

“We are not going to change it just because Newcastle came here, got three chances, and buried them.

“They are very tough teams who have beaten us – Newcastle, Everton, Spurs – they are top teams.

“We’ve always said 40 points but I would say we need another three to be totally safe,” added Pascoe.

“If you look at it there are six games left, so if we could get a win (on Wednesday) the other teams will have to win four out of their last five.

“But QPR will be looking at this game as a chance to get three points.

“They have a lot of big teams to play so they will be targeting this game as one they need to win.

“They’ll press us, hurry us and they will be pumped up because they want to stay in the Premier League."

The Swans head to Loftus Road on Wednesday to face a QPR side fighting against an immediate return to the Championship - a division that they won last time around.

“What they did last year is irrelevant. They won the Championship but that’s gone.

“It’s a different kettle of fish in the Premier League and they need to play for Mark Hughes.

“Mark is very calm, quiet, methodical. He just gets on with his job

“He had an edge when he played and he’s the same now as a manager.

“They’ve got big characters, big players and ones who are on big money, so they need to produce.

“I do see them staying up. There are some big players there so it’s up to them to produce when the pressure is on.

“It’s one of those old, tight grounds where the crowd are on top of you and screaming and shouting.

“It’s like the Vetch used to be for us. It’s a great atmosphere there and we expect a tough game.”
