Garry Monk is shaking off speculation linking him with a move to Bristol City and saying that he wants to stay at the Swans

Rumours are sugguesting that the Swans captain could be moving across the Severn Bridge to Ashton Gate but he was one of the first to push those rumours to one side.

Monk told Wales on Sunday “I haven’t heard anything (from Bristol) and no-one has said anything to me about it

“I know it’s been going around but it’s not my decision. I’ve made it quite clear that this is the club I want to be at.

“Obviously games and playing time dictates that sort of decision, but it won’t come from me, it’s up to the manager whether he wants me to be here or not. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I haven’t spoken to him at all so I don’t know what his thoughts are on the situation.

“People have written me off plenty of times before because of my age or injuries but this season I feel a lot stronger and the games will give me that sharpness,” said Monk. “I will be fighting as hard the other boys to stake a claim but it’s out of my hands.

“People say you are this old and you can’t do this or that but you know yourself what you can do.

“I know I can still do a job so I am working as hard as I can to get to top fitness and hopefully I will be able to give a good account of myself and that will be enough.

“It’s the manager’s job to pick the team but obviously if I am not involved at all then I will probably speak to him. I guess you can gauge it as the season goes on.

“It was difficult last season,” admitted Monk. “Caulks got injured early on and obviously when I came in I wasn’t quite right with the niggling foot injury.

“I was never quite fully fit last season and it was always a bit of a struggle because I was never at my top sharpness but I managed to play 16 games in the league and a few in the cup so I saw a bit of action.

“I played in some of the big games and I am proud of that but of course you want to play more.”
