Ben Reeves Joins MK Dons

Ex Saint Ben Reeves has found no difficulty in finding another club aftyer being released from St Mary's.

Ben Reeves can count himself very unlucky to have been discarded by Saints, the clubs meteoric rise in the past couple of seasons has meant that he found himself way down the pecking order and with plenty of players standing in his way of a first team place and more to come in, it was unlikely he would get much of a chance to prove his worth in the coming season.chances are that if we were still in the Championship, Reeves would be seen as a vital member of our squad, Saints success has not been good for Ben's career im afraid.

But wen called upon he did no wrong for the club, last season he featured in all three Capital Cup matches, scoring a cracking goal against Stevenage, he also made a few Premier League appearances as substitute, he didnt look out of place, but as mentioned his progress route was log jammed.

Overall for the club he made 4 starts, all in either the FA or League Cups plus another 4 as sub in those competitions, he also made 5 appearances as sub in the league,  including 3 in the Premier plus 2 in our championship promotion season.

Good luck to Ben, after the re vamping of the youth system over a decade ago, it has paid dividends that are being reaped by the Club today, one of the most pleasing things though is that like our youth policy back in the 70/80's the players who dont quite make it at the Club seem to have no problem with finding a career in the lower leagues elsewhere, I will look out for MK Dons next season and hopefully will see Ben make his mark.

Sorry to see him go as I felt and still feel he has a good future ahead of him. Hope he does well and good luck to him. It bothers me that we are off-loading players like him that have good potential but because they are not instantly up to premiership level we do not have the time or patience to get them to that level.

The trouble for Ben was the emergence of Luke Shaw who took his left back place in the u18 side. This meant Ben having to reinvent himself as a midfielder to get a contract. Whether he would have made it into the first team as a left back nobody really knows.
