Point Gained For Ten Men Swans

The Swans took their points tally for the season into double figures with a 0-0 draw at Sunderland this afternoon in a game where they ended up with ten men thanks to the harsh decision to award a second yellow card to Angel Rangel towards the end of the game.

It was the Swans first clean sheet away from the Liberty in twenty five attempts and lifted then back into the Premier League Top four although it will be a brief stay with one of Arsenal or Tottenham guaranteed to dispose them before the day is out.

That said nobody would continue about a league position of fifth place six games into the season and with a home game to come next weekend against a struggling Newcastle side we have every chance of going into the next international break back in those top 4 positions once again.

The result was Sunderland's fifth draw in their six games to date and leaves the home side in the bottom half of the table searching for their first league win of a season that they hoped would deliver much more.

If last week's red card for Wilfried Bony was deserved the sending off of Rangel today was extremely harsh as he would surely have been unable to get out of the way of Will Buckley as the player knocked the ball past him but having been warned a few minutes before the referee did not take any time to think about producing the second yellow card which means Rangel will sit out the visit of Newcastle next weekend.

It was another strong performance from Fabianski who looks a strong contender for a third Planet Swans man of the match award for the season and is certainly looking one of the steals of the season having joined on a free transfer from Arsenal at the end of last season. He has added extra steel to the Swans defence and commands his area well something which was so sadly lacking at times last season.

In truth though there were very few attempts actually on target in the ninety minutes and a couple of penalty appeals were as close as either side would have got to scoring although it is fair to say that the appeals were rightly turned down and either side would have felt rightfully aggrieved had they been given.

A point away from home in the Premier League should always be viewed as a good point and now we can build on this result with a win next week to lift us back to the higher echelons of the division.
